Vivoactive 4 series & Venu SW 7.10 causing multiple user issues (meta thread)

Just wanted to create this meta-thread to highlight (to Garmin admins and developer/customer support) that there now seem to be multiple forum threads where users are highlighting major usability issues since update 7.10 for Venu and Vivoactive 4 series. For example, these are the threads that I can see (judging by title):

Thanks in advance for any work-around/bugfix that Garmin can rollout (urgently). I've tried downgrading a Vivoactive 4S to 7.01 BETA (using the normal file-transfer method), but the watch does not auto-update and just removes the file.

  • same with the vivo4. i have the IQ! every morning and it wont sync. some days it restarts itself but sleep and hydration usually get wiped out as if i didnt wear the day prior. rather annoying at this point. was running fine before 7.1 update.

  • So how many watch owners are affected by these issues? My VA4S seems to have no issues with 7.10, so I guess it works for the majority. Could it be the usual update issues, and nothing to do with 7.10 itself? Every time Garmin rolls out a new software, some watches are failing.

  • I just wanted to add that I’ve been having multiple issues since the update. My phone can’t play music, GPS can’t track me for runs, and even indoor activities like rowing are unable to be tracked at this point. This update basically nuked everything I like about my watch

  • My vivoactive 4 has also some issues with V_7.10. Watchfaces getting no correct data, massive battery draining, watch hanging up etc.
    I've downgraded my vivo4 to V_6.90 and now it's working as good as the last year!

    After conneting it again to my pc the upgrade to 7.10 started again ;-(  ... so I've downgraded once again and stopped usb-connection to pc. Also deleted all wi-fi connections in watch settings. Hope this prevents from updating again.

    By the way: ... bad work by GARMIN ;-(((

    At least in my case (Venu2, no WiFi configured) are updates pushed to the watch from Garmin Connect Mobile application (from the phone).

    It's really unbelievable we are not able to disable automatic updates.....

  • But if the issues are in the upgrade process, and not in the 7.10-software itself, a second upgrade attempt could be successful? 

  • ... nope. Updated my vivo4 3 times to V_7.10. Having the same issues every time. Now back on V_6.90 everything is fine.

  • I read in some old threads that hard reset (reset to factory defaults) can fix an issues after the firmware update....

    You can try it (in the case your watch will be updated to 7.10 again) - but you will have to configure the watch from scratch.
