Fenix 6 pro green light sensor and heart rate not working consistently

I have read all of the threads for when the green light and/or heart rate from the watch is not functioning... trying everything suggested:

  • Restart the watch
  • Clean the back
  • Tighten the strap
  • Make sure software is up-to-date

I have done all of these!!

Occasionally when I restart the watch (several times in a row!) I can get the heart rate readings back, not always with the green light though (more often it does not turn on? Not sure if this is problematic).
It then might last a few hours, before dropping out again.

It also seems that even when the heart rate monitor is "functioning" the stress and body battery readings are completely thrown off.

I have invested a lot in garmin over the years, but I am very disappointed with this current lack of performance.

Please help, before I am forced to start exploring the world beyond Garmin!

  • Good morning. We continue with the tests. Second day and everything is perfect. The lights are working perfectly without turning off at any time. Marking fc correctly after another MTB outing this morning. I am still thinking about the theory of the slightly inflated Lipo battery and the pressure it exerted on the fc sensor and the flex.

  • Your theory with the swollen Lipo makes sense, however I think I read some articles where other users are experiencing the same problems with new watches,

Anyway please keep us updated, maybe we have a plan now.

  • In my case it was almost 90% because the lipo battery was causing the motherboard to press the battery against the sensor and flex. It still works perfectly. No reading errors and perfect lights.

  • Update: Sensor went completely dead again after just 3 days, no tinkering with sensors, restarts or even resets helped. In my case one can notice that if also barometer and temperature sensors report nothing or 0.

Following your experience and guidance, I opened my watch today.  Can you share more details / a picture of your battery? Also, you mentioned you didn't tighten certain screws to reduce pressure, but in my Fenix 6s Pro there are no screws which could result in force towards the battery and sensor array (except the one from the case of course :D).

I didn't notice any deformations to the battery. On the back plate, where the optical sensor sits is even a small gap between battery and sensor. The only thing I did, was opening the cover, prying out the battery as it was glued next to the sensor field and assembled it again. I did not disconnect, clean or change anything else. BUT: sensors have been back since then.

    1. Good morning. My fc sensor continues to work perfectly since the last disassembly. Let's see if I explain myself well. boss. When disassembling the watch, the first piece that comes out is the screen along with its flex. Second step is the flex that comes from below and fits into the motherboard at the bottom. Next is to remove 4 screws that the motherboard has. Those 4 screws if I tightened them to the maximum, my fc stopped working. If I left these screws tight but just enough so that it does not move or vibrate. The sensor worked perfectly again. If you look closely, the motherboard serves as a support to leave the battery fixed to the watch. That is why I say that if the lipo battery inflates a few millimeters over time (Which is normal. I have a lipo rc car and they inflate a little) It puts pressure on the sensor causing it to not work. That is my theory. Since once the above is done. My fc works perfectly. Without any failure. In all this, Garmin has not answered any of the 5 emails I have sent them!!!! Very bad on their part.
  • I understand that your FC is working again???

  • Thanks for sharing details. Mine works for now. Do you also have a 6s Pro? Maybe the battery and motherboard order is different at the larger ones?

  • Hi,

    is there any update?

I am still fighting with my watch, I opened the watch a couple of times disconnectet and reconnectet everything. It is strange when I put the watch on my wrist It works most of the time for some time ( 15 min to 3 hours) then suddenly it looses the HR reading and there is nothing I can do to get it working again. Then after some time ( I just leave it on the wrist)  it is reading the HR again. In the diagramm I hve gaps with no reading, reading, no reading. I even resoldered the flex cable to the sensor on the back lid.

I am really close to trash the watch :-(.

Garmin support only told me to switch off and on, reset, master reset the watch or to by an exchange model.

No further suggestions, they just don`t want us to try anything else, or to tell us any details where to look for.

Did you have any ( constantly) success with your efforts/ repairs?
