Fenix 6 pro green light sensor and heart rate not working consistently

I have read all of the threads for when the green light and/or heart rate from the watch is not functioning... trying everything suggested:

  • Restart the watch
  • Clean the back
  • Tighten the strap
  • Make sure software is up-to-date

I have done all of these!!

Occasionally when I restart the watch (several times in a row!) I can get the heart rate readings back, not always with the green light though (more often it does not turn on? Not sure if this is problematic).
It then might last a few hours, before dropping out again.

It also seems that even when the heart rate monitor is "functioning" the stress and body battery readings are completely thrown off.

I have invested a lot in garmin over the years, but I am very disappointed with this current lack of performance.

Please help, before I am forced to start exploring the world beyond Garmin!

  • I don't know what to do with mine anymore. I open it, disconnect the motherboard flex cable and it starts working. Whenever it feels like it, the light starts to turn off. Until it stops emitting light. Has anyone downgraded to a version type 25 or 26. To see if it works with those versions? I'm one step away from throwing it away and getting the coros pace 3.

  • I'll try to downgrade to version 25 this week. Disassemble the watch to force the heart rate light to start and cross my fingers that the sensor continues to work.

  • Same problem here, tried everything the internet had to offer. Contacted Garmin support yesterday, waiting on a response… My third Garmin watch, I’ll probably never learn. If this doesn’t get fixed, time to see what the competition has to offer.

  • I have a fenix 6 pro and I did not find a way to downgrade, I also aked this to Garmin Tech Support but the trick with pressing 8 times  the light button to get to a service menu did not show this option. I am pretty sure it possible by deleting or replacing some files via PC connection but again Garmin refused to tell this; Garmin: " It should work with this software version". I am very dissapointed with Garmin, we are talking here of so called premium watches for a lot of money.

I will have a look at the upcoming huawei GT 5 or pro but I do not want to change the subject here. Maybe someone finds a fix :-)

  • what's that 8x light trick? tried that right now and nothing happened (aside from light - no light - light ... ;-) ). thanks

my watch does no WHR or oximeter for a long time now. Went back to 26.00 once, no change either.

Maybe they want to get rid of these watches and push us to buy recent models. That won't work this way IMO.

  • Sorry I was not correct, This option only allows to reinstall the current software again.

To get to this hidden menu you have to press the  "Menü", button ( right top button)  then choose > "System or system settings->system  > Info" .

When you are in "Info" press the light button 8 times. to enter the developer menu, then scroll down. Depending on the watch you may find " "reinstall software" or so. Then It should reinstall the current software again.

I did not have this option, so I cannot help here further

  • Thanks for the howto! Didn't know that. Tried right now, I don't have that option, either.

I would bite the bullet to reconfigure apps etc (backup/restore didn't work correctly for me, this as another issue ...) if I knew this is a path to working sensors. Opening the watch still isn't an option for me.

  • I also don’t have the option to reinstall the software. We shouldn’t have to mess around with such an expensive watch to get the BASIC feature working.

  • what else can we do?

Garmin does not want or is not able to help.

Another option would be to wait for a new official software or maybe a patch if it is a software issue, what we still do not know.

    Hardware or software issue?????

  • Two weeks after opening my watch and loosening the battery from the glue, my Fenix 6s Pro is working flawlessly, still. No need for further restarts, resets or tinkering with the sensor. I hope it stays that way.

Like others already mentioned, also my support ticket with Garmin (opened on August 30) was not answered at all. And that is the most worrying part from my perspective. At least when assuming they want to sell new watches which crossed the 1k EUR mark with the Fenix 8...
