Fenix 8 Amoled 47mm - Battery Drain

Hi,

My Fenix discharges very quickly. 20% per day without GPS workouts and without AOD. That's relatively high compared to my Epix 47mm.
Does anyone else have the same problem?
I hope that this will be fixed with the next firmware update.

  • It's most likely an internal process in the watch could be something like syncing, post-calculation on your activity, etc, etc. Hard for us to say without technical debugging to be honest. I am just shocked that this has been fixed yet 3 months later.

I owned Fenix 8 47mm AMOLED (returned), 51m AMOLED (kept because even with drain it could last a couple days) and Fenix 8 Solar 51mm (this had horrible battery drain to the tune of 25% a day for MIP which is a travesty).

I still own my Tactix Delta Solar (F6 generation) and it gets 25-30 days battery life WITH activities...

  • Well, the question is what is triggering this draining? Well, I'm thinking if Garmin is able to perform tests like Compiling code and starting in console activity with mocking data of GPS where will be connected external sensors. Just to check memory usage and CPU usage, maybe some zombie is running. Garmin should test it. I think Incident detection is not an error issue in this case ..

  • after finishing the RUN activity with the internal watch, the HR sensor battery started draining .. so ,,walk,, is ok but ,,run,, is starting som internal process ..  curious if hiking or trail run will cause same error :) ..

  • Custom activity for me (i made a Sauna activity) also causes the drain even with GPS disabled along with Strength..

  • haha jesus .. what the *** you are doing Garmin :) .. maybe we should start as maximum walking activity

  • After 12.22, I can confirm that the issue persists. I'm wondering if they're actually considering this bug and working to fix it.

  • I can confirm the same behavior. Installed 12.22 issue persists .. with no activity battery is good. Once you will perform an activity something will kill the battery. The problem is that we will have to wait another month as I don't see fixing the battery issue after activity as incident detection did not end up properly (latest release log).. Well, I don't want to perform always soft. reset after each activity .. I will never ever buy a Garmin watch after its release... a big mistake :( .  You know I am an ultra runner and now I have sold my forerunner and now don't believe if this watch survive a 100km run ..:( I am upset .. already sent logs to Garmin and I hope that they will fix it soon .. but honestly I didn't see any message from Garmin that they have some battery issues (except incident detection..)

  • I used Fenix 5 Plus, 6 and 7 SS and I was satisfied until the 8 series. You are right, this tool has become a toy and that's it, I think that with the new UI software and the energy requirements are higher and the software deficiencies are not resolved in a timely manner. Anyway, I returned it on time because it costs a lot and it does not even compare to the old models in terms of endurance.

  • HI, I also confirm that with version 12.22 the problem of rapid battery drain persists. I'll make a clarification, if I train without external sensors the watch discharges the battery in a manner adequate to that declared and I tested it for 3 days; as soon as I connect an external sensor (Coros hr monitor), I don't know what happens and the battery runs out quickly and to avoid this I am forced to systematically do a soft reset.

  • I have removed all external sensors .. executed soft. reset .. so no stryd or hrm
