Fenix 8 Amoled 47mm - Battery Drain

Hi,

My Fenix discharges very quickly. 20% per day without GPS workouts and without AOD. That's relatively high compared to my Epix 47mm.
Does anyone else have the same problem?
I hope that this will be fixed with the next firmware update.

  • Garmin has a major problem, their app store is terrible and lacks any integration into main players ecosystem ie android or ios and they never will be a player in that arena, but their sports and outdoor metrics are fantastic as well as offline digital mapping but there is a complete lack of coherence to what they're doing, if i were ceo I'd do a number of things,

Streamline and seperate overlapping disciplines and software for full integration accross a single platform that's accessible to all connected

At the moment watches are all over the place, overlapping features, styles appearances, silly heirarchicies, marq etc, create a cheaper watch with android integration and garmin apps to be bought or licensed, similarly garmin activities apps for ios, streamline all of it so it's clear who it's aimed at and it all works

Streamline and make accessible bluechart, navionics on watch even if thats just a months or years access rather than being forced to buy whole thing, integrate boating, diving full integration diving on all watches upto recreational dive, premium more professional features pay to unlock them like ostc and ratio, all have ai, cheaper t2 transmitter, imagine doing a dive and having pre dive plan uploaded to all for approval, points of entry exit etc

streamline and integrate whole web browser experience allowing a one stop shop for all features more easy to connect like a Facebook experience for sports, you go on a diving or sailing trip,or paddle boarding, hiking for a day or a week etc it all can be done seamlessly for a group or singly from website, from phone integrating watch/app

Need better satellite integration not only for emergencies but also just comms, social media, roaming data, plenty of room to own the holiday sim market

Basically turn garmin into the go to social, organisational, tracking experience for ANY activity in a way a child could do without having to dig into settings or fiddle

Then have dedicated premium sports watches for those that need it, apps for the smartphone crowd that dabble and in between for whatever those in between want, ie battery life and mapping that works!

and revamp iq store, make it much easier to design and build you're own watch face within a framework compatible with vaunted but lacking battery life

All pieces are there, I was seriously looking at apple ultra 2, it looks great, if apple got their stuff together made possible integration with android phone and improved battery life, id go for it tbh

  • The In Reach Messenger Plus is what you are looking for with regards to more social media interaction.

I asked the question as to why In Reach couldn't be integrated into the watch. I was told the antenna need access the iridium satellites is to0 large.

The store much like Android is not regulated and any developer can submit apps, watch faces etc. The store could be better organized.

While much of the integration you discussed would be great, it would sacrifice additional battery life.

I agree that the Garmin watch offerings are a bit overwhelming but, not everyone wants/needs each feature. The way it is now the user can pick and choose what they want and what price point they are willing to pay.

I doubt seriously that Garmin wants to play in the IOS and Android sand box. Just like a doubt that Android and Apple are going into the full featured sports watch (from what I can tell Apple is now concentrating on Home Automation).

  • I dont think anyone on this app is interested in a smartwatch, but there something to be said for the simplicity and integration of smartwatch platforms that is lacking in garmins os, products and website integration, its as if they don't have perspective of the big picture of what they do and why people want their products, given they're primarily a digital mapping and metrics company that's strange

As far as as inreach is concerned can't they do both emergency beacon and data hotspotting, that's all youd need, starlink is up, another us startup on way and Chinese system is up, doable, messenger plus is v good but still deficient it doesn't bridge enough to make it worth investing for my use unfortunately

  • If they would take the Forerunner 965 and put it in a Fenix 8 case, I would be a happy camper.

The Fenix is just a classier looking watch is why I have one. It can be worn just about anywhere (except for the Orange cover on the plain titanium)

  • Yes, they did this. It's called the Fenix 8.

  • give me the standard reply......

Thank you for contacting Garmin Customer Service. We sincerely apologize for the delay in our response to your query, and we appreciate your patience. Glad to hear that the map loading issue has been fixed with the latest software version. The battery life of your watch depends on the features enabled, such as wrist-based heart rate, smartphone notifications, GPS, internal sensors, and connected sensors. To extend battery life and prevent it from draining quickly, you can try some tips provided in the article below.

We hope this information will be helpfulThank you for choosing Garmin,

  • So far problem persist with the last official release 12.35

  • Have taken any of the steps outlined above to see if it helps?

  • Yes, the battery drains even when not wearing the watch.

Anyway, some of these tips are ridiculous:

Turn on the battery saver feature from the controls menu (Controls). I dont buy the watch to be in battery saver mode

Use UltraTrac satellite mode for your activity (Satellite Settings).OK, but y dont do ultra activities, and the draining occurs when yuu are not in activity mode

Turn off Bluetooth® technology when you are not using connected features. Its anoyin to turn on every time you need to use it.

Use a watch face that is not updated every second. For example, use a watch face without a second hand.  Realy?? the battery achilles tendon of a wacth wich price is more than 1k is to count and show seconds in a screen?? Garmin you can do better, dont spit in my face pls. :D

Turn off wrist-based heart rate monitoring, realy? why?, I have a Garmin Fenix 5 with with all this fetures on and dont suffer from battery drains.

I not hope the watch  to be "Up to 16 days with Gesture as they promise".  with my training week load I will be happy with 8 to 10 days, But I do not accept a draining of 15% to 30% per day, and I dont accept to rebbot the watch after an activity to stop the battery drains.

  • I agree 100% with you @deception - this is not a user problem
