Fenix 6 pro green light sensor and heart rate not working consistently

I have read all of the threads for when the green light and/or heart rate from the watch is not functioning... trying everything suggested:

  • Restart the watch
  • Clean the back
  • Tighten the strap
  • Make sure software is up-to-date

I have done all of these!!

Occasionally when I restart the watch (several times in a row!) I can get the heart rate readings back, not always with the green light though (more often it does not turn on? Not sure if this is problematic).
It then might last a few hours, before dropping out again.

It also seems that even when the heart rate monitor is "functioning" the stress and body battery readings are completely thrown off.

I have invested a lot in garmin over the years, but I am very disappointed with this current lack of performance.

Please help, before I am forced to start exploring the world beyond Garmin!

  • Hi, I have the same issues, the HR sensor stopps working from time to time.

Did you open the watch from the back or the top?

    Thanks

  • There are several videos on YouTube above where they do the whole disassembly. It's easy. It still works perfectly.

  • Thanks very much for your help.

I disassembled the watch completely however this did not fix my problem. The HR sensor works fine for some time then just stopps for 5 to 20 minutes and then comes back. If I switch the sensor off and on the green light comes on, goes off but no HR values. It is quite random. I asked Garmin support but did not get any reply. (very disappointing)

Is it a software or hardware isssue?

    Any other recommendations?

    Thanks in advance

  • Good afternoon. I'm updating you on how the watch is working. It has worked perfectly until this afternoon when it started to fail again. Same operation but I only removed the flex that goes from the battery and sensors to the motherboard. It works perfectly again. I have uninstalled the application from the mobile and the watch has been reset to factory settings. To see if there is any conflict with the old software. If there is any news I will post it here.

  • It is curious that the FC lights fail and do not work properly. And when disconnecting the flex that comes from the bottom part. Battery and sensors. And reconnecting everything works perfectly again. There is something that creates the conflict..... To continue investigating.

  • As I mentioned earlier that solution did heöp my watch. Why dont youtryit again by disconnecting everything. Oh, just to mention perhaps the watch is doing some update after tou reconnect everything back and it needs time.

  • I think my problem is different: the sensor is working for a while ( activity or not) then suddenly no more readings for 5 to 20 min and then without doing anything the sensor comes back and I get a reading again. This happens randomly.

I disconnectet the flex cable from the sensor to the main baord several times but without any difference.

No idea if it is a software or hardware issue, Is it possible to downgrade the software?

  • Update 17 days after my first reset:

The watch's sensors have been pretty stable since my reset. In total, I had to restart it ~5 times, but it went worse the last two days. Until I had to finally reset it again today. The strongest indicator for a necessary reset (for me) is that also barometer data has gone missing / to 0. Multiple restarts and the (on page 11 or 12) described turning off and on of various sensors didn't help.

Now let's look for the next ~2 weeks. If there is some kind of pattern, a software issue becomes more and more likely with e.g. some buffers / logs or other files getting crammed.

  • I also opened a support ticket (see below, if you want to chime in with your own tickets to create some buzz).

    Dear Garmin Support,

My Fenix 6s Pro is undergoing some serious issues with (temporary) sensor outages requiring restarts and now for the 2nd time a watch reset. According to multiple threads on your international and German forum, several people got affected at the same time.

I describe the problem in detail in this thread [1] (p.11) and post various updates on my observations on subsequent pages.
Similar reports in [2] and [3].

Assuming it is a software issue of v.27 and not a mass hardware failure of many units at the same time, I'd appreciate any hints from your end on awareness of your dev team and likelihood of getting it fixed.

Happy to provide more data / details where I can.

    All the best,
