With introduction of Garmin Pay, I am starting to add a new payment option for some of my apps. The system is not flexible enough to just add Garmin Pay to existing apps, so I'll publish a copy of an app, with the same functionality but Garmin Pay as the payment provider.

The first one out is Glance Ultra (a copy of Glance Dual Screen):

EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • Hi All, here is the lates release of Glance Pro:

    Version 2.1 - 22/04/2022

    • Rewrote Moon phase and Illumination % calculation algorithm. It is way more complex now and unique in IQ store. Values updated every hour (not day as before). It took me weeks to find and adopt an algorithm that could be used on a watch, but as always it was worth it!
    • Added Moon phase and Illumination % metric. Illumination % is recalculated every hour and is the result of the enhanced algorithm above. As far as I know, this metric is pretty unique for IQ store. It should be pretty accurate too, but still could be off by a few hours from moon calendar.
    • Added long awaited trend indicator in Pressure metric (visible only when the pressure is changing). Trend is defined as changing 1hPa or more compared to pressure value 3 hours ago.
    • Added Raw Ambient Pressure metric. Documentation is vague, but it looks like regular pressure is adjusted for sea level. This one is the real pressure around you, which might be good for mountaineers.
    • Set Open Weather Map as weather provider automatically if Garmin Weather is not supported by the watch. This one is for users with watches not supporting Garmin Weather. Weather provider always switches to OWM even if they select Garmin Weather.

The free Glance Watch Face got the new Moon phase and Illumination % algorithm (used in the Moon bar). All other features are exclusive to Glance Pro.

As always, please leave a review even if you did before - Garmin lets you do it for every version of the app.

    Enjoy!

  • Yes, probably it was me! Now I saw the Time option, thanks!

Do you think Garmin could give more memory to Instinct 2 in order to let the devs build better and more complete apps? You are not the only dev forced to create a dedicated app for Instinct 2 Series deleting some features to fit the low memory.

Just another question, the solar intensity % does update every X seconds or if it takes time to update it depends on Garmin software still not optimized?

  • Do you think Garmin could give more memory to Instinct 2 in order to let the devs build better and more complete apps?

I don't know why Garmin decided to cripple Instinct 2 with low memory, esspecially considering the price! Plus awfull screen shape + sub-window design pretty much ensures that you must re-write your app.

Just another question, the solar intensity % does update every X seconds or if it takes time to update it depends on Garmin software still not optimized?

All metrics except seconds are updated 1/min when the watch is in low power mode and 1/sec when it wakes up (hand raised, etc). So, when you raise your hand (given that you enable gesture wake up in watch settings), everything is updated right away.

  • A quick survey. Who would like to have an option to adjust colors? Basicaly entering your own RGB color string to tweak the ones used in the app by default. A lot of other apps have it, but I find the need to enter RGB string cumbesome at best. I'd have a different approach - a combination of list of colors and RGB color definitions.

Thing is, I myself am happy with the stock colors the app has now. It would be a lot of work to add this option, so I want to check if it would make much difference to you. Please post your thoughts!

  • I like the way it works now. I agree with you. Don’t see the need.

  • It is ok as is for me, even I use it black and white. Of course I'm on a Fenix so the survey should concern more ones with oled display.

  • Hi my friend, today for the first time I noticed an arrow besides the Pressure field, arrow up. Then it disappeared and now there's again the permanent icon for Pressure. What is that?

That is the Pressure trend you guys asked for Slight smile:

  • I'm fine with stock colours, I've used watchfaces in the past that use RGB colour definitions but I found it cumbersome and generally went back to plain white and a bit of yellow that looks gold.

Enabling colour selection for icons and data fields would be nice.

  • Present state with color settings is acceptable and doesn’t need change. For me is winner black and white combination as best readable color combination.
