With introduction of Garmin Pay, I am starting to add a new payment option for some of my apps. The system is not flexible enough to just add Garmin Pay to existing apps, so I'll publish a copy of an app, with the same functionality but Garmin Pay as the payment provider.

The first one out is Glance Ultra (a copy of Glance Dual Screen):

EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5c0fe72b-f045-4366-a878-d3e67c600868

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • Any plans to add at least Body Battery to the free version ? Many other nice free WFs now offer that feature so it puts Glance at a disadvantage IMHO.

Would you please help me understand why users are so averse to paid apps? Free apps are a loose/loose situation for both sides. Without the payment developers loose an incentive. After a few bad reviews they loose any interest too and stop supporting their apps. Without support no new features are developed, the apps go out of date, user requests are ignored. A year later you buy a new watch with new features, but you favorite app doesn't support them and you either endure or settle for something less. Loose / loose for everyone.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you really like an app, please support the developer - and I mean all great developers in IQ store, not just myself. Even if the app is free, most of them have a donation link. It is there because developers NEED your support. Encourage them once in a while, and you will have much more responsive developers and better apps Thumbsup.

    Cheers!

  • Offer a coffee to a person who built this great WF. Really it is a coffee!

  • I don’t know if it was you or someone else but they said that it’s funny that you’re willing to pay a lot of money for a watch but you don’t see the need to donate to a developer, or try to crack or get a free code. There are a lot of good developers that make great apps to make our watches even better and we have to support them. I have helped/donated/bought a lot of apps or watchfaces that I have no longer installed in my watch. They are great but in anyway they don’t suit me.
    let’s help our developers!

    Thumbsup

That part is undestandable - we pay big $ for our watches and phones and they come with a lot of great free apps from the manufacturer. So we expect everything else to be free too.

Garmin doesn't support the developers at all. The is no ecosystem to be a full time Garmin developer. No built in payment system like on Apple or Android, so user mentality is geared towards free apps. Garmin wouldn't even give me a discount on watches (I asked) - with 400K users to support, I can't even get a new device for testing because it costs more then I ever make from apps.

I was also surprised to learn that donations do not work at all. Yes, there are ocasional donations (thank you all who donated, you rock!), but they are very rare. As in $0 to $30 per month, even with over hundred thousand users.

Anyway, enough ranting Slight smile. Thank you guys for the support, I really appreciate it. Please leave a review in IQ store if you have a chance - those 1 star reviews from people who don't bother to read the FAQ really got on my nerve...

    Thanks!

  • Thank you! Following the instructions solved the issue!

  • Really nice face, thanks for creating it.

On Epix 2 tap on datafields for more details doesn't work. As far as I see none of the custom watchfaces support it, only the Garmin ones.
Any plan to implement it or is there a tech limitation?

Garmin doesn't provide this functionality to 3rd party apps yet. I didn't see any anouncements or plans to implement it later either. So, for now it is just impossible.

Thanks for the update. Please post a review with your experience confirming Garmin Weather issues. There are a few users that struggle with the same problem and tend to blame it on the app. A genuine review like this will help a lot of users!

  • Thanks for the massive work you did in order to make this watchface working on Instinct Series 2 devices.

Do you think is it possible to get Time Zones? That's the only information I'm missing..

    I already left a 5 stars review and a donation..you deserve bro!

Custom TIME was already added in the last update of Glance for Instinct 2. I saw someones review (might have been yours!) asking for it, so I added it.

I'm also planning to adopt my Universal Widget to Instinct 2 - it will have custom time too.

Thanks for the support! You can't imagine how far your donations go. It is not about the money, it's more of a feeling that some appreciates your work enough to donate Thumbsup! Coding for Instinct was a real pain in the butt and it took way longer than I expected, but I'm glad I did it. Looks like the app is very popular with Instinct users Slight smile!
