Watchface: Glance

NEWS UPDATE:

With introduction of Garmin Pay, I am starting to add a new payment option for some of my apps. The system is not flexible enough to just add Garmin Pay to existing apps, so I'll publish a copy of an app, with the same functionality but Garmin Pay as the payment provider.

The first one out is Glance Ultra (a copy of Glance Dual Screen):

EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5c0fe72b-f045-4366-a878-d3e67c600868

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • How do I pay for temp???

Follow instructions in the app description.

  • Hello sir. Any update on this?

Connect IQ System 6 is here. We’ve made improvements across the software development cycle to make it easier and faster to create must-have apps.

    Complications

The Complications API provides a new unified API for watch faces to access the data available from Garmin wearables. This gives watch faces new, powerful capabilities. They can programmatically query data that’s available from the system to access it via a unified schema, and they can support hold-to-launch functionality available on fēnix® 7 and Venu® 2 series products.

We talked about it before Christmas.  Any progress now when they have released it. Would be very nice to have complications on my venu2 plus.. Upside downThumbsupThumbsup

Thanks again for superb watchface in glance pro. Using it as a daily wf...Best there is..

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello sir. Any update on this?

Connect IQ System 6 is here. We’ve made improvements across the software development cycle to make it easier and faster to create must-have apps.

SDK was published only today. It will take weeks if not months to develop and test the new features. But yes, that is the plan. Stay tunned!

  • Aha, didn't realised it was today. Sorry!! Looking forward to your effort. Will gladly contribute with more donations if needed. Have done several reviews also

Thanks and good luck.. waiting patently..

  • This is an amazing watch face.

Is there a away to display the total distance ran that week? The default face allows for this but in this face the "distance" field only shows the total distance for today. Is this available in the premium version perhaps?

    Thanks for the help

  • No, that's not possible in the Pro version. We are waiting patiently for an update that will bring us weekly running distance or running distance last 7 days.

  • Hopefully I'll add it to Glance Pro and Glance Dual Screen soon. But only for watches supporting System 6. Here is the list of devices that Garmin says will get System 6:

    forums.garmin.com/.../welcome-to-system-6

The Connect IQ SDK version 4.2 with System 6 support is out today and is available from the SDK manager. The following devices have been updated with System 6 support:

    EnduroTm
    Enduro 2
    epixTm (Gen 2)
    Instinct® 2 Series
    Instinct Crossover
    fēnix 6 series
    fēnix 6 Pro series
    fēnix 7 series
    Forerunner® 55
    Forerunner 255 series
    Forerunner 955
    MARQ® series
    MARQ 2 series
    Venu 2 series
    Venu 2 Plus
    Venu Sq 2 series

  • Sadly not for FR245. But the watch is able to show weekly running distance or 7 days distance. There are some CIQ watchfaces that provide it (on my FR245).

  • It is possible to calculate on older models too, but requires a lot more code. Memory is tight as it is, but I'll test to see if it is possible to fit in.

However, it would be a good excuse to buy a new watch. So, maybe consider it an opportunity to reward yourself Slight smile!

  • I bought the watch in September 2022... The 255s was too expensive and still is it.
