Fenix 6 pro green light sensor and heart rate not working consistently

I have read all of the threads for when the green light and/or heart rate from the watch is not functioning... trying everything suggested:

  • Restart the watch
  • Clean the back
  • Tighten the strap
  • Make sure software is up-to-date

I have done all of these!!

Occasionally when I restart the watch (several times in a row!) I can get the heart rate readings back, not always with the green light though (more often it does not turn on? Not sure if this is problematic).
It then might last a few hours, before dropping out again.

It also seems that even when the heart rate monitor is "functioning" the stress and body battery readings are completely thrown off.

I have invested a lot in garmin over the years, but I am very disappointed with this current lack of performance.

Please help, before I am forced to start exploring the world beyond Garmin!

    • Dear All - I was suffering from this also and the hard reset worked a treat
  • I had this issue a couple times and restarting the watch made a difference.

now though I can’t get the heart rate monitor back.

Tired everything but opening the watch.

  • I kind of having a similar problem, the wrist HR works fine but I do get only metric from my HRM for a few seconds after start but then it goes silent. The watch still reports the sensor connected but no metric transmitted after reconnecting it again works for a few seconds.

The HRM works fine with my Edge 1040

    both recordings from today

  • I'm also having this problem for a long time, garmin Fenix 6. If I hit it a couple of times hard it works again, so look like something physical inside the watch, I'll try and open it to see if reassembling it decreases/eliminates this.

Symptoms, laggy watch face, no HR and no Bluetooth. Hitting it a couple of times solves it lol

  • Hi ! Thanks for sharing the procedure. I've done it out of despair and it worked !

  • Mine had a blue silicon thread to ensure waterproofing. You just have to be careful and put it back when closing the watch, that's all.

    Thanks again man !

  • Thanks for this idea. My Fenix 6S had the heart rate monitor stop but I was able to revive it by disabling it, rebooting (not even a reset) and then re-enabling.

  • I have the same issue with the wrist band sensor not working (no green lights) for ~ 1 week on a Fenix 6S Pro running on 27.0, but assume it is a software bug and not a hardware issue. Posting this here in hope of Garmin issuing a fix, but at least for other folks affected to reproduce and/or contribute to bug hunting and reproduction.

    My setup
    Garmin Fenix 6 S Pro (v. 27.0)
Polar H10  HR sensor connected via ANT+ during activities

What triggers the built-in HR to go dead:

The wrist band HR sensor works perfectly fine and consistent, even after turning on and off the watch, as I don't wear it during the night. The _only_ instance when the built in HR stops working (and occasionally also the step counter and barometer, btw,. but not always reproduceable), is after an activity where I used the external Polar H10 HR sensor. Then the built-in HR sensor does not work. Sometimes the watch displays a "external HR sensor connected" message after I finish an activity, which it doesn't show when I start the activity.

When using the internal HR sensor only for an activity, the shutdown of the sensor does _not_ occur.

    Update August 12:

I noticed that sometimes the sensors (!) also go dead randomly. If that happens, it is not only the heart rate sensor, but also steps and therefore cadence or floor counting which doesn't work. If that happens, an activity is not counting towards e.g. "intensity minutes", despite showing a correct heart rate chart from the external sensor. Seems like steps (and/or something else) is required to attribute a certain heart rate zone to intensity minutes.

What I do to get it back to working:

Disabling the internal sensor, rebooting the watch and then turning it on again (as suggested in this thread earlier) does not work reliably, only sometimes. What does work very well is disabling the external sensor, too and then following the fore mentioned procedure. Works every time. The caveat is, that you need to do it and should not forget turning the external sensor on again for activities.

I hope this helps some of you and maybe an engineer or tech support person from Garmin can get on the right track to fix it. I would love to buy a Fenix 8 in September, but am going back to Polar (which I used before the Fenix 6) if such annoyances will not be fixed.

  • Let me add a "me too" here to maybe draw a little bit more attention here. Garmin seems to be on vacation completely ;-)

My F6Xpro has no working WHR even after resetting completely, downgrading from 27.00 to 26.00, etc

I have three chest straps in use with this watch, 2x HRM-Tri and 1x HRMPro+

AFAI understand I could try to delete all the 3 external sensors from the settings and start an activity to see if WHR starts working again`

I think the watch records steps ... in fact I am very sure that it counts floors.

External HR works ok, I recorded many activities successfully in the last weeks and months.
