Battery drain after update to 8.10?

Battery drain after update to 8.10?

Do you have any experiences with the same after update to 8.10? With 6.10 everything was OK.

  • because Garmin told me, That it is not possible to downgrade. I wanted.

  • thanks for your advise, but I am not so big technic fan :-).

But thanks, my issue was solved.

What was the solution? I had similar problem and I sent my watch to service.....

  • Hey guys,

The battery drained per hour is not static as many of you know, so it is harder to measure high battery drain by that metric since it can vary depending on notifications, backlight, syncing, etc. The best way to estimate battery drain is to charge your watch to 100% restart it, then check the battery estimate in days remaining. If you have all day PulseOx turned on this will reduce the battery life drastically.

If this is still drastically reduced then there is an issue. If you have installed the beta software then you will want to plug in the watch to your computer and make sure there are no update files remaining on the watch that could be draining the battery. I also recommend uninstalling any IQ apps that may not be playing well with the Beta update.

If you have the 8.10 software installed plug the watch in to a computer and use Garmin Express to make sure there are no updates that you are missing. I also recommend uninstalling any IQ apps to make sure they are not draining the battery.

  • interresting thing happened. On saturday I connected to Garmin Express to download some new release of Europe Maps. Something was downloaded with the map and after this downloading the watch offered me again installation of 8.10, even if i had this version in watch. (saw info inside). I confirmed installation and it was made again.

after this the battery seems to be OK. I will let you know in several days.

But this behaviour is very very wierd.

    Have anice day.

  • Update from my side; as suggested bij Garmin-Nate I soft-reset my watch. and fully charged it. Key takeaway: The higher power util during and after an activity is what jumps to my attention.

The first few % always go slowly, so I had to wait till normal behaviour. Having started no activities, my power utilisation was around 0,2%/hr, which is as it should be for a 6X. Yesterday I started a simple walking activity. I am not sure about this part, but I feel the battery usage for a walk was higher than normal. Here is the interesting part, AFTER my walk I measured the power utilisation again, and now it was back to 0,3% per hour, which is not good. It stayed like that during the night too. Today I went skating and this activity cost me 2,2% for half an hour, which is very much. I had no music on, but I did use a chestband HRM. I will continue to monitor, but these are my findings thusfar.

My f6x Pro was really sucking up battery - up to 2.13%/hr just relaxing.  I am running sw 8.73 Beta.  I recharged and reset (hold Light button until it shuts down) several times, but battery drain was erratic and huge.

Yesterday, I removed ALL CIQ Apps, Widgets and Watchfaces.  Overnight - approximately 6 hours - the battery drain was only 1% total.  Seems to be back to normal, or close to it.

So... I support the suggestion by to remove all CIQ stuff to see if it makes a difference for you.  Now, I will add back, one by one, the CIQ stuff I need.  If I find one that proves to be the culprit, I will report here and contact the developer and let them know.

    HTH

  • It sucks, 4.5% battery for 30 minutes run with strap heart rate.

  • Uninstalling all CIQ is not really a solution, is it? If a software release suddenly enables 3rd party apps to suck the life out of the battery, this is a problem with the software/development platform. People buy garmin watches also because they can use 3rd party apps.  Besides, I have no CIQ stuff running at the moment and still see erratic behaviour. I have soft and hard reset a couple of times now, and getting slightly annoyed with this. There is also no way to restore all your settings properly, so it takes a lot of time for everything to be where you want it, even with just the stock stuff.

    Totally agree.
