I've just checked. CIQ and stock widgets run the same during activity,
In my opinion - when I switch to the widgets, watch face, etc I do it because I want to see something out of the activity screen but in the night its impossible without light on. If light is so important why I can press the light button? So gesture is bad and pressing good? No consequences...
Why I switched off the gesture during activity. Because there is another bug, during running the screen is all the time on, every move of my hand is treated as the gesture and it consumes a lot of battery.
1. On my f7, the gesture doesn't switch the light on also when there is no activity.
I guess that part would be a bug, assuming that your General Use setting is for the gesture to switch the light on. So are you saying that the gesture never turns on the light for CIQ widgets no matter what your settings are?
But you originally said this:
"One user has informed me about it (FR965). My f7 20.22 also.
But if your 965 works I've checked settings, And the problem is the gesture during activitiy, I have OFF and it means widget are treated as activity. The same is with the watch faces during activitiy..."
Your original argument seems to be that you think During Activity settings should not apply to (CIQ) widgets and watch faces when an activity is in the background. And my argument is that behaviour is consistent with everything else Garmin does.
It sounds to me like you are saying the During Activity settings should not apply during an activity. It seems that you and I have different definitions of "during activity". I think it means while an activity is being recorded (regardless of whether an activity screen is in the foreground) and you think it means while an activity screen is being displayed on the watch.
To me it seems like Garmin agrees with my definition. I think Garmin's definition is simpler and more useful. Garmin watches revolve around activity recording functionality, and the whole watch behaves differently while you are in an activity (again, for example, you cannot sync your watch while an activity is being recorded). Therefore it's useful to have a set of display settings which are specific to activity recording.
2. Why the stock widgets react in other way?
If that's the case, then it sounds like a bug.
On my FR955, I see consistent behaviour:
- During Activity settings are applied when an activity is being recorded (in the background or foreground). This activity could be recorded by a native activity profile or a CIQ app
- General Use settings are applied when an activity is not being recorded
It doesn't matter whether the activity is in the foreground or background, or what screen I am currently looking at. All that matters is whether an activity is being recorded.
TL;DR the entire bug report revolves around the meaning of "During Activity".
1) Actual meaning, based on Garmin device behaviour: "during activity" means while an activity is being recorded (whether it's a built-in activity or a CIQ app that records an activity), even if the activity/app is in the "background".
2) Expected meaning (in this bug report): "during activity" means while the activity is visible on the screen
1. makes a lot more sense to me, especially since there are other restrictions on what the device can do *during an activity* (whether or not the activity is on the screen or not). For example, Garmin devices will not sync with Connect *during an activity*. (Doesn't matter whether the activity is in foreground).
I was not able to reproduce this issue on a Forerunner 965, Fenix 5 Plus, or a Fenix 8 - 43mm AMOLED. The PSX-BarNote widget behaved as intended when the gesture setting was turned on for General Use. The backlight would come on when triggered by a gesture. When the gesture setting was toggled off for During Activity setting, I was able to verify that the backlight would not be triggered by a gesture on the aforementioned devices when performing an activity (i.e. Run).
Jonathan.ConnectIQ but this is precisely the behaviour PSX is complaining about, if I'm understanding you correctly.
My understanding:
- Actual behaviour: the gesture setting for During Activity takes effect when opening PSX-BarNote widget/glance while an activity is running [in the "background"]. [Because "During Activity" applies even when an activity is in the background]
- PSX's expected behaviour: the gesture setting for General Use takes effect when opening PSX-BarNote widget/glance even while an activity is running [in the "background"]. PSX's understanding of During Activity is that it should only apply when an activity is in the foreground, but I don't think this matches reality.
Note that the actual behaviour doesn't just apply when opening PSX-BarNote (or any glance) while an activity is running, but also when doing anything else while an activity is running in the background [like looking at the watchface, changing system settings, etc.] To me it looks like Garmin's behaviour is completely consistent.
From my perspective it's not a bug, it's a difference between user [PSX] expectations and Garmin design/implementation.
