How to install and configure NoFrills

Please post any issues, questions and / or suggestions you have here and I will assist as best I can.

  • Hermo - I'm running NF on the vahr with the 4.30 FW that just came out yesterday, and I'm not having the issue. I'm using the default settings.

    Thanks Jim!

JoeProulx Can you shed some light on how your settings differ from the default settings?

Fenix 3HR user here, looks like the previous FW updates have broke this watch face. Currently on version 4.70. Anything we can do to fix it? Really like this watch face.
  • Just installed that watchface again on my FR235. Had another before with less battery consumption (2% during my sleep instead of 2% within 30 minutes as NF did), but the battery percentage (the reason I changed from original to another) was too small to read under worse light conditions. So I'll give NF another chance, watching the battery consumption. What I'm missing: DND. It's not so important because I don't use notifications but I wonder why it's not shown. The other watchface shows DND so I don't think that it is a restriction from Garmin. I also remember a screenshot of a FR920 with that little moon.

The 2% battery consumption within 30 minutes might have been due to some older firmware bugs or something else unrelated to NoFrills.
I have never seen such a fast drain with NoFrills on my own devices with release firmware versions, so I am glad you are willing to give it another try!

The moon icon you mentioned for the 920xt is in fact the sleep mode icon. It is different from the DND icon which is only available to CIQ 2.x devices (commonly referred to as the "newer devices"). The 235 unfortunately (as well as other older devices) does not have CIQ 2.x support.

At some point Garmin removed the option to manually activate sleep mode on watches except for the 920 and fenix3 devices (popular demand by f3 and 920 users). If I recall correctly, manual sleep mode activation wasn't available on the 235 when it came out, or if it was, it wasn't available long enough to gather enough public demand for it. So for this reason and the fact that there is no CIQ 2.x support on the 235, there is no moon icon available, whether it is sleep mode or DND.

    Hope this makes sense.

  • As I bought my FR235 two days before Christmas I don't know the older firmware. But with the latest firmware I have that little moon icon during sleep mode.

Just found another issue: I plugged the watch into charger. The only sign that it works is increasing percentage. No flash symbol like the original face. Is that correct? So I also cannot see if charge is complete. Because there is another issue: It doesn't go to 100%. I saw 99%, 30 minutes later 98% although it was still plugged.

There are many things that stock (default) watch faces show that are not available to ConnectIQ developers.
The icon is one of these. Although Garmin shows it on their default faces, we cannot detect that mode unfortunately.

Also Garmin gives no indication to CIQ developers to indicate the charging status.
Developers have requested such a feature from Garmin in the past.

There is a known issue that ConnectIQ apps don't get the full 100% level from the system. There is nothing that developers can do about it and Garmin also gave no inidication in the past that they would fix it.
  • If Garmin is concerned about battery usage or stability or whatever, why do they offer the ability to add watchfaces, datafields, apps or widgets? Either they build their software and hardware so that restrictions aren't neccessary or they don't offer that ability. Then you'll have watches like FR35. The situation now is something like half things.

It is a known fact that certain devices cannot support everything that the newer devices can CIQ wise.
    I understand your frustration.
