With introduction of Garmin Pay, I am starting to add a new payment option for some of my apps. The system is not flexible enough to just add Garmin Pay to existing apps, so I'll publish a copy of an app, with the same functionality but Garmin Pay as the payment provider.

The first one out is Glance Ultra (a copy of Glance Dual Screen):

EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • I just got the Glance Ultra face on my Venu 4 and can't find the option for the time font. When I go to customize on the watch itself I can choose the metrics font but not the time.

  • Does adding a third-party complication mean that I will be able to try to write my own complication that retrieves the temperature from Weather Underground/Ecowitt/Home Assistant and displays it in place of the current weather from Garmin/OWM? I've been waiting for this for a long time, I even wrote to you about it, I think. OWM and Garmin don't work for me. Two days ago, there was a difference of over 6 degrees compared to my station!

  • If you write a app that publishes complications, you can access them with FaceIt today, and it's really not that complex to do it in a CIQ app.  I have widgets and watch faces that do that with OWM and WU today.

I live in Phoenix, and the Garmin Weather is from the airport, while I live at a different elevation in a different part of the city, so my WU PWS is usually much more accurate

  • Thanks for your reply. My Garmin takes the temperature from an airport ~50 km away, and it's not very accurate. I'm somewhat familiar with FaceIt, but basically what I mean is that Glance is almost perfect for me, and I would just like to change one field there, namely the one with the temperature/weather.

  • It would probably be a good idea (if possible) to implement a custom field that can take data from an arbitrary web address. I'm thinking about needing something like that in the future to see a value read from my home server.

  • I thought about that too, but it's not that easy to have a universal way of reading from different sources. Various authorizations come into play. Garmin itself requires an HTTPS connection, and if I want to read data from Home Assistant, for example, I also need to enter a long live token somewhere and parse the response.

  • Can't HA output a single float value via a publicly accessible web page? That wouldn't be a security risk, I think. Or you could create a page that outputs a single value (or two for conditions) on the server where you are running HA (excuse me if I'm talking rubbish, I haven't got any experience with HA, I'm just thinking of what should be reasonably possible).

  • Does adding a third-party complication mean that I will be able to try to write my own complication that retrieves the temperature from Weather Underground/Ecowitt/Home Assistant and displays it in place of the current weather from Garmin/OWM?

Yes. Right now I integrate only Garmin stock complications and my own widgets (Hydrate+ and Universal App), but I'm planning to add a metric to show any available complication on your watch (including the one you write yourself).

  • Any rough ETA? I have to try Hydrate+, it's a shame that you can't export hydration data to the Garmin ecosystem because from the description alone I can see that it's better than the original widget.

  • Any rough ETA?

No ETA, but shouldn't be too long.

Hydrate+ is awesome - I wrote it mostly for myself Slight smile. Integration with Garmin is impossible at the moment, but I personally never understood the need for it. The sole purpose of this widget is to make sure you drink enough water during the day. Saving that data won't affect how much water you will drink next day. It is nice to have, sure, but it is not that useful in my opinion.
