Watchface: Glance

NEWS UPDATE:

With introduction of Garmin Pay, I am starting to add a new payment option for some of my apps. The system is not flexible enough to just add Garmin Pay to existing apps, so I'll publish a copy of an app, with the same functionality but Garmin Pay as the payment provider.

The first one out is Glance Ultra (a copy of Glance Dual Screen):

EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5c0fe72b-f045-4366-a878-d3e67c600868

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • a very simpistic arrow which worked well.

    Next update

  • After that update I don't have 00 seconds anymore. I see 59 and then 01. After 01 it takes a bit longer until 02 appears.

You need to get a better watch. What you describe is impossible if the watch works as expected. Your watch misses some Update() calls - probably busy with something else.

Needless to say, the app does work as expected on all my watches. The change was very minor and had nothing to do with seconds.

  • I disagree.  The user does NOT need to get a better watch.  I'm someone that's been developing watch faces for 8 years, and support System 1 through System 6 devices, MIP, AMOLED, etc, and I have a watch in each catagory I test with.

You may want to get the watch the user is using, run on the real device, and pay close attention to how things work between onUpdate(), onPartialUpdate(), onEnterSleep() and onExitSleep(). and understand what is happening.

  • Over the years, I've seen all kinds of issues with Garmin. Garmin firmware is still buggy, and no amount of "pay close attention" will fix a fact that onPartialUpdate() call is skipped or delayed. I do see it very clearly on my Instinct 2 watches, which are slow as *** and I assume have slower CPU. Most likely FR245 CPU is fairly slow as well and just unable to handle all the new functionality in the latest firmware updates. There is ABSOLUTELLY NOTHING that the app can do to fix it.

Jim, if you want to discuss it further, please do so in Developers' thread. I have this topic dedicated to help my users with my apps, and I would appreciate if other developers did not interfere or advertise themselves here. No offense, but I find it troubling that you post here. There is a clear conflict of interest. Garmin does not allow developers to post reviews on other developers apps for the very same reason.

  • The FW update was several weeks ago, so before I installed Easy Round. Yesterday evening I noticed that strange behavior. Did the update in the afternoon. I switched back to Glance Pro where the seconds work fine. Over night I kept Glance Pro and switched back to Easy Round at noon. Now the seconds are fine again. A few times not, but most time. I'll see if that problem will be back after a few hours. In the past I had computers/programs that needed more memory or slowed down after a certain time of use. I don't know how the watches and the CIQ stuff works. I'm a photographer, not a developer. My programming skills are so bad, they would cause a nuclear blast.

  • Any plans to add Training Readiness to Glance Pro?

  • Any plans to add Training Readiness to Glance Pro?

Garmin doesn't provide Training Readiness to 3rd party apps.

  • Really love all your faces.

If possible, please add high/low daily temperature

  • Hi, how do I get an unlock code for Glance Pro?

    Thanks,
