Watchface: Glance

NEWS UPDATE:

With introduction of Garmin Pay, I am starting to add a new payment option for some of my apps. The system is not flexible enough to just add Garmin Pay to existing apps, so I'll publish a copy of an app, with the same functionality but Garmin Pay as the payment provider.

The first one out is Glance Ultra (a copy of Glance Dual Screen):

EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • nice to see you continuing to develop and cool to see your promo period. i installed it and will tinker more later, but IMHO Big Easy is still the winner (i've paid for it and Glance Pro). i would love to see what you could come up with anl analog watch with permanent second sweep and glanceable fields. i have some ideas but never have had the time or energy to consider coding it up...

I keep thinking about analog watch face, but every time I decide agains it. It just too limited and doesn't look good enough to justify it. If a watch could always be in a high power mode, yes, it could be nice. But constantly switching between nice and ugly just doesn't work for me. Garmin stock faces are actually not bad if you want analog, at least as far as looks go.

  • First impression of the Easy Round: great Watch face.

  • Thanks. Don't forget to write a review!

  • i do think the stock faces look decent, but they are very restricted to the number of data fields shown-- there is a lot of wasted space (and the digits are small for what they use). from what i understand, the biggest limitation is the power needed to redraw the second sweep on an analog face. if it's a thin second hand, it's not a problem and doesn't take too much power.

  • Seconds hand is actually very power consuming because it requires to redraw the whole area under it. Plus, the way Garmin works, it is multiplied by 60 (seconds in minute).

  • just a question, is it possible to add so I can choose to see Bluetooth when disconnected instead of all time?

There is one thing you can do if you don't want to see certain icons at all. Set their color to same color as background.

  • Smart, it is just Bluetooth I don't need to see, haha.. just annoys me...haha

  • When I wake up my watch by switching to a widget and back that wrist gesture works. Several minutes later I can move the same way (and as it's shown in your Glance Dual Screen video), no luck. I even switched on seconds to keep the watch alive somehow (and to fill the "hole" above the BT icon), it doesn't help.

  • Seconds do not keep the watch awake.

Check your watch settings, make sure the wrist gesture is enabled. I had a user who found that it was disabled during activities, or something like that.

And last thing, I'm willing to take a $100 bet that wrist gesture will work for you if we have a video call where we will verify all settings and technique. If it still doesn't work, I'll pay you $100, if it does, you'll have to pay me Slight smile

  • Well, I don't know if these settings can be enabled/disabled in a FR245 but the normal wrist gesture to show seconds on watchfaces or switch on backlight during activities after sunset works fine. Maybe there is a difference between MIP and AMOLED devices?
