EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • Purchased Glance Pro the day it was released and just purchased Glance Dual so I could use the progress bars as well as arc bars.

Cool, thanks! For users with high memory watches, it would probably make more sense to get Dual Screen - it has everything Pro has plus a few more nice features which I find very handy Slight smile. Second screen feels very natural now, I practically don't need the Universal Widget anymore!

  • Trying the Dual one on my Venu, I’m not convinced. The wrist movement hardly ever seems to work. Compared to the Pro, the extra features, 2 graphics and bars, how would battery drain look, compared to the Pro?

  • Trying the Dual one on my Venu, I’m not convinced. The wrist movement hardly ever seems to work.

Wrist gesture works every single time if you follow instructions I provided in the app description:

    https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_dual.html#dual

Do not rush through the gesture, let the watch register different power modes. If you do it in front of the mirror, you should see the screen dim, before you turn the wrist back toward yourself.

how would battery drain look, compared to the Pro

Battery usage in Dual Screen is identical to Pro, even with the second screen enabled.

  • It needs the display to be Always ON - doing that triggers the following Garmin Warning on my Venu:

“ Always On : this setting will reduce battery life and may impact display longevity”.

On top of that the display (as per Garmin) is less clear when in the Always On mode.

Sorry to say but I’ll stick to the Pro version.

“ Always On : this setting will reduce battery life and may impact display longevity”.

AOD is required for AMOLED watches only (Venu, Epix) - vast majority of Garmin watches uses MIP displays, where screen is always on without extra battery drain.

I have Epix2, and I hate the black screen requiring me to do something to see the time (touch or gesture), so I always use AOD anyways.

On top of that the display (as per Garmin) is less clear when in the Always On mode.

AOD display is dimmed compared to high power mode, but it is still clearly visible indoor (less so in the sunlight). Still, it is way better than a black screen.

Sorry to say but I’ll stick to the Pro version.

As I mentioned, Dual Screen is identical to Pro, except that it has a few nicer features (like middle bars, graphs, second screen), and likely to get even more in the future. If your watch supports Dual Screen, it is a better option. If Garmin provides API (in some futuer updates) to get user input in the watch face apps, AOD requirement for the second screen might be removed. However, if you already bought the Pro version and happy with it, there is little reason to upgrade.

  • Well thanks for the feedback- I’ll give it a try anyway. Aren’t you worried about Display longevity at all?

  • Aren’t you worried about Display longevity at all?

AOD mode has burn-in protection - the app must alternate illuminated pixels every 3 minutes in AOD mode (plus have less than 10% of pixels used). If the app fails to do it, Garmin turns off AOD for that app. So no, there shouldn't be any issues with display longetivity.

I also turn off AOD during the sleep (option in the watch settings, not the app), so the light doesn't bother me and battery life is improved.

  • Question: the top bar setting says Move.  Sometimes it is red or green or both. What does that mean?  Thanks!  I like the large font and simple design!

  • Love the watch face. The standard setting is a move bar at the top.  It’s either Red or Green or both.  What does Red and Green mean?  Thanks
