EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5c0fe72b-f045-4366-a878-d3e67c600868

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • Yeah, maybe that is so (maybe they calculate it). There is a simple way, it actually is not the real calculation, but a very good approximation, which is described here. Again, I'm not pressing here, but I personnally would like it. Thanks again. How to Calculate Dew Point. (learntocalculate.com) or explained better here Dew Point Calculator + Dew Point Chart (With Formula) - LearnMetrics

  • Thanks, that definetly helps. If I add it, it will only be available in Pro and Dual versions of the app. I can't give you any estimates on when I'll do it though, so please do not expect it to appear right away.

  • Thank you for being so responsive!

  • Hi MD,

I've been using Glance then Glance Pro ever since released, love it.

Just a query. If I setup Glance Dual exactly the same as Glance Pro, same data fields and scales, will the battery usage be the same or will Glance Dual consume more battery.

    Cheerz :) :D ;)

  • After some time of inactivity, the gesture stops working and the only way to resume (temporarily) its functionality is to exit and get back to the watch face. I want to point out that, in the Backlight system settings, I have the Gesture set to off and I believe that this might have an impact on the behavior of the watch face.

Any idea how to possibly fix that?

It happens for other watche faces using the gesture as well. The only workaround is to enable backlight on gesture after sunset for example

Thanks! Pro and Dual are exactly the same - if you don't use Graphs (which might use slightly more battery), both apps should consume the same battery amount. Even the second screen feature does not use battery - it relies on Garmin functionality, so not much "extra" code is running.

  • >Removed TIME vertical position setting (for stock fonts) - now it is centered automatically based on the watch model. Please contact me if you >see an issue on your watch.

    >Apparently the time on the 955 is not centered. Could something be done about it? Thank you.

If you have a problem with TIME not centered vertically, please post a picture and watch model. Thanks!

  • Hi MD,

I’ve seen in the last update the new option for AMOLED screens and I think that, battery wise, it might be an useful feature — to switch off part of or the whole screen — on non-AMOLED watches as well.

Would that make sense or it’d be completely useless?

    Best

On MIP watches the only thing that would make a difference is disabling seconds update.

  • I published a new update to Glance Pro and Dual Screen - added Dew Point estimation metric.

On Dual Screen I added a new AOD option: "L0 (Black Screen)".

This allows saving the battery and still use the wrist gesture. To use it, please enable AOD in the watch settings (otherwise wrist gesture can't be detected) and set "L0 (Black Screen)" in the app settings. The effect will be similar to AOD disabled, but not exactly the same. There are still some calls will be made to the app every minute by the system, but the processing will be minimum. The screen shouldn't use any power either, but that needs a more thorrough testing.
