EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5c0fe72b-f045-4366-a878-d3e67c600868

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • Best WF- on the Pro, I‘ve put the Move Bar as Top Arc Bar, color 1- light red, color 2 light purple, color 3 light red - which colour is showing the growing period of inactivity ? Is it light red Can‘t figure it out- sorry.

Hi, the bars and colors are explained here: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#bars

    Thanks

  • Hi, as a runner, dew point is a better indication of how humid it is to me than % relative humidity. It is also available in Garmin CIQ, so I'm wondering if you could add that option? The icon could be the same as % relative humidity (a water drop). It's only a suggestion. I have a Fenix 6X Pro and I love how the watch face takes advantage of the whole space. Thank you very much for your generous work!

  • Hi there, loving this watch face. Quick question for you: I have a Fenix 5. I’ve installed the Glance Pro watch face so I can use the Open Weather API. I’ve used other watch faces which support this. Unfortunately the weather isn’t coming through on the watch face. It’s just showing a ‘-‘ symbol and a little alien-looking icon (could be a dropped pin icon?). Any ideas? Is this supported for the Fenix 5?

Garmin doesn't provide Dew Point info to other apps:

Open Weather is supported on all watches. Sometimes it doesn't get the data, then you see "-". If it happens, please make sure that the watch is connected to the phone and phone has internet. You might need to reboot both - watch and the phone - if it still doesn't work.

  • Hello,

I'm using (unlocked) version of Glance Dual Screen (v.1.3) since some times on my Enduro (1st generation) and I'm having issues with the gesture (single and double, I've tested both).

After some time of inactivity, the gesture stops working and the only way to resume (temporarily) its functionality is to exit and get back to the watch face. I want to point out that, in the Backlight system settings, I have the Gesture set to off and I believe that this might have an impact on the behavior of the watch face.

Any idea how to possibly fix that?

    Best

Please check the instructions on the wrist gesture. I tried to cover all important poins:

This functionality rilies entirely on the system gesture (as explained in the link above). If you disable it, it won't work.

There is no way to further "fix" anything. I was looking for different ways to get user input in a watch face app - nothing worked. During the testing I stumbled upon the fact that Garmin has a wrist gesture both ways - not only to wake the watch up, but to put it to sleep too. I capture both events, and that is how wrist gesture works.

On some AMOLED watches (like Epix), you can achieve the switch by pressing light button twice - it puts the watch to sleep and wakes it up. But on watches with MIP displays, light button just controlls the back light and doesn't trigger Sleep event (so it can't be captured by the app and used as input).

  • Hi MobileDriveway, I have never created my own watch face, so I'm a bit at a loss of arguments here, but I could point you to other 3rd party Garmin watch faces that do offer Dew Point from Garmin Weather: one is called 40+ and another one is SHN TxD GW (the GW stands for Garmin weather as opposed to the other watch face from the same developer that uses OWM). I *think* it is only available strating at a given version of CIQ, but it definitely is available on my Fenix 6X Pro on other watch faces. Not trying to make you *compete* with others here, just that I have no other argument than to say that it looks like it is available since others are  doing it. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

  • it looks like it is available since others are  doing it

They probably calculate Dew Point themselves. I looked up the formula, and it looks pretty complex. If you can find an easy way to calculate DP using Humidity and Temperature, I'll consider adding it. Thanks
