EASY Round

GLANCE WATCH FACE app won THE BEST NEW WATCH FACE APP OF 2022 ! At the Developers conference Garmin announced nominees and winners for the best apps in different categories. Glance Watch Face was nominated and won in the best new watch face category Slight smile! Garmin didn't post the video from the conference yet, but it was already reported by other websites: https://the5krunner.com/2022/10/12/garmin-app-watchface-of-the-year-2022-ciq-winners-and-nominees-announced/

The idea for this app is simple:
- Use only large fonts, so that all data are visible at a glance (hence the name of the app: Glance   )
- Put as much data on the screen as possible, without sacrificing font size above
- Make all data fields customizeable to your needs
- Make colors customizeable as much as possible, so users can create their own design

The "Glance Watch Face" app is 100% FREE - no hidden restrictions, nagging, or expiration:

There is also a mostly free app - BIG EASY: apps.garmin.com/.../86ec352b-da01-4806-8972-770c6d32a5e8

There are also two paid versions of this app - "Glance Pro":

and "Glance Dual Screen":

https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/5c0fe72b-f045-4366-a878-d3e67c600868

Paid versions are identical to the free version (so no worries, FREE doesn't mean bad!), but have a lot of extra features features:

  • Open Weather Map support
  • Setting for TIME font weight
  • New way to use shared color themes
  • Support for many new metrics (like Body Battery, Stress Level, and lots more)
  • Extra progress bars and Graphs (in Dual Screen only)
  • Two separate data screens (in Dual Screen only)
  • A lot more - see apps description for the full list
  • You have an opportunity (and a small incentive) to support the development Slight smile

Unique feature of the Glance apps - you can save your own Color Themes and quicly switch between them righ on the watch.

NEW: Now you can SHARE your Color Theme! You can also quickly apply Color Themes shared with you. Here is a full description of how it all works: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance.html#color

Here is the current Color Themes Gallery: https://www.mobiledriveway.com/glance_gallery.html

Color themes are compatible between "Glance" and "Glance Pro" (except for "inactive status icons color", which became obsolete in "Pro").

I'd love to see all color combinations you came up with. Please post your themes in the Reviews and I'll add them to the gallery!

Questions and suggestions are welcome!

  • Thanks!. Wind speed and direction is in "Weather - wind" metric. However wind speed provided by Garmin Weather might not be the most accurate - try Glance Pro app and set the weather provider to Open Weather.

  • Is it possible to add Stress number as an option for the data fields? I am using a Vivoactive 3.

Not yet, and it is unlikely that Vivoactive 3 will ever get a firmware updete enabling it.

  • Hi there,

Really like your watchface! Great work!! Simple but still pleasant to look at! Also especially like the moon phase bar!

    Just two points on Epix:

Is a "real" always on mode possible? Like the stock watchface (which basically only dimmes) and others behave?

After waking up in sleep mode sometimes shortly the full watchface is shown for just a second, then straight going to the reduced wf mode hh:mm. Sometimes it properly wakes up to the full wf and staying there for the set amount of seconds (8s im my case).

Any idea, what could be causing this?

  • Make sure you update firmware on your Epix 2 - it comes with some issues.

All dimming and switching to AOD is system functionality - the app doesn't control it, but just reflects the AOD mode (reduced screen usage). Check my post about it a few pages ago.

  • Ok thanks, i figured its coming from the system. Appearantly there is an issue with waking up on Epix... (even on latest 7.20 SW).

    Anyhow great work!

  • Absolutely best watch face, thank you very much for your efforts mate, great job, been enjoying it very much on my new F6. It is adding real value to the watch itself as the factory watchfaces are just not cutting it on such a fine device.

I noticed however one small glitch and have one observation:

I use Garmin's Move! feature and each time I am reminded to move, the watch face seems to freeze. The time seconds don't show after hand movement and the heart rate metric stops refreshing. I have to click some of the HW buttons and switch back to watch face to make it alive again... until next Move! notification. Is this a bug or something restrictive from the OS?

And now the observation. I use the sunrise/sunset metric, but it is not consistent with Garmin's OS data, the values are slightly off. It seems that it shows the next day data for sunset. This is no big deal as few minutes play no role at all, just saying.

Thank you again and please don't change it too much in the future, it is perfect as it is :)

Interesting, thanks for reporting it. I don't use this feature myself, so never saw the issue. Is the move alert still visible on the screen when it happens? If it is, then Garmin probably doesn't refresh the app screen under the alert. The way a watch face app works is by calls from the system - every second and every minute. The only reason for it to freeze is if system stops making those calls, so I would guess that it is most likely a system issue, but anything is possible.

Two things can affect sunrise sunset time. First is location - the app grabs whatever location is available (or last known location if nothing is available), but Garmin might use something else. Second, the calculation algorithm might be different - Garmin doesn't expose their algorithm or sunset data.

  • The move alert is long gone and the watchface keeps still ever since. First time I noticed it was minutes after the alert, so it seems that it would not come back to life by itself. It does it every time the move alert comes on. Also, after I move and the move fieature tells me that the move bar was reset, the watchface arc which I have set up for move clears itself correctly, but the seconds don't come back and the heart rate remains unchanged. I was watching it more closely and it seems that other alerts, like phone notifications do not cause this, just the move alert. I have to remind myslef to switch from and to the watchface each time the move alert comes on to keep it alive so it can be lived with, it's just a little annoyance. But it can be that the OS is not doing something it should and with the next firmware it will be fixed. Currently, I am running the latest FW though.

  • Hi MobileDriveWay,

I've just bought your Glance Pro watchface yesterday and i love it Slight smile

I understand, that Stress Level and Body Battery haven't been available to 3rd party watchfaces a long time.

Yesterday i updated my Venu 2 to the 8.05 BETA Firmware which supports the Connect IQ System 5 now.

If I read it correctly here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/b/news-announcements/posts/welcome-to-connect-iq-system-5 It should now be possible to add the Stress Level and Body Battery to your watchface?

I would be very happy to have this in the near future!

Thanks for your work and I hope you continue with your great support.

Everything is in BETA, there is no final SDK released for body battery and stress level. I'll add them to as soon as they released. Thanks
