HMs DIY #1-6

Because I want to keep this datafield and the app free for use I would be very grateful about a small donation to PayPal

A detailed description of how to use it can be found here:

Thanks very much to mcinner1 for putting so much time into this documentation!

Designer download

You can contribute on my github page.
You can upload your layout so others can use it as well.
Also any changes to the fonts.txt can be updated there as well.

  • Here is a link to the XML

Strange - but I'm sorry to say: on my PC the filled rectangle can be expandet to 282 / 470 (and beyond) without the screen turning black. It simply works as it should.

Have you ever tried to set such a RF for another device in the Designer-program?
Does it really depend on the clipping-frame?

Edit: uuups - just saw that HM has tested already!

  • I'm not sure if the Left/Right alignment is working correctly. I originally added a left aligned % text element to a right aligned battery percentage in my layout above and positioned it as can be seen in my layout. However when it was loaded on to the edge the % symbol was positioned further left and was on top of the battery percentage value.

I made the same observation. And therefore I have built a layout for having a check. And as you can see - the font in the designer tool has more space left and right as the font on the device itself.
You simply have to take it as it is. It makes no sense to adapt x-offset for left-bound, because then right-bound is twice the way off.
I try to consider this fact already at the planning stage.

The layout here is: all texts are set exactly to the mid-line!
(And on the Edge they are exactly at the mid-line)

  • What I propose is to enter a distance in the app like in the original DIY. I run the same route almost every time and the "app distance" is an easy way to use distance left. This way it can also be used without maps.

  • Hi,

I tested today your datafield and it works fine.

I've seen that you added the lap and last lap values. Can you please add also the average pace for the current lap? I'm using lap pace instead of current pace, because current pace is very jumpy.

Thanks a lot for the development.

    Christian

  • I had today with my Forerunner 945 extreme battery consumption - 8-12% per hour (8% by running with 1 variable with dynamic coloring and 12% by cycling with 2 variables with dynamic coloring), normally was 4-5% per hour. Had someone that experience? What can be a reason for this? Thanks.

My Edge 1030 consumes between 7 and 12% per hour  - depending on how often the display turns on in the dark forest Grinning.
Here is a diagram from my fit-activity file of my test drive, which I reported some posts before.
The device was switched on for 1 hour and I consumed 8% charge. (Diagram from fitfile repairtool: http://fitfilerepairtool.info )

So I can say that the HM-DIY dadatield does not consume more power than normal applications! (And I have 15 dyn.colored graphical elements in my layout!)

  • Hi

I will add the values in the next release. But if you only want to get rid of the "jumpiness" of the current pace, just smooth it out with "nr of values". I use 5, so it averages the value over 5 sec.

    Regards

    Erich

  • Ok I will add a new config item: "Distance", when this is greater than 0 it will replace the internal distance.

    Regards

    Erich

  • I made a test: cycling - first 30 minuts with HM-DIY with 2 values with dynamic coloring, battery consumption 4%, than 30 minutes with native Garmin screen with 6 metrics, battery consumption 2%. Than 1 hour with HM-DIY, battery consumption 7%.

Than running, 1 hour 25 minutes, HM-DIY without dynamic coloring, battery consumption 7%.

I suspect the problem comes as I used the 1.1.4 designer (with 1.1.3 designer I had no such problems with battery consumption, whatever I didn´t use any dynamic coloring).

  • Which version did you use? I had some performance issues with 1.1.3 and 1.1.4. Please try the latest 1.1.7.

Datafield version is important, Designer version does not matter in that case, it only exports a string.

    regards

    Erich

  • I had big problems with Designer 1.1.4. When I copied the layout string from it and put it in Garmin Expres in my watch, after disconnection from the computer the Data field was not on my watch. I had no such problems with 1.1.3 Designer. On Friday I put my layout strings with Connect-IQ App in the watch and than the Data field stayd in the watch after disconnection.

Now I installed the actual version and I try it tomorow.
