This is an issue that is actively being investigated by the engineering teams responsible for the Forerunner 945. We will be closing this thread as this is not an issue we can solve remotely via the forums…
A $600 watch should have buttons that respond in a way in which the user can tell that the press was registered, whatever that means. In this particular case, if I'm running and press the lap key, I shouldn…
I would buy this one, but after reading a lot of post with this problem, knowing that it is not sort it out. Do you recomend that i pay 600€ if i will have to call to suppot? really, i dont know what will…
I have the same issue. I don't think this is normal, doesn't feel like high quality for sure. I compare it next to my 935 and they are quite different with 935 feeling very normal, "you push the button it hits resistance and does what it is supposed to do". the 945 sort of has a "double click" feel on most of the buttons. you could easily think you pushed the button and later find out you still have not started the activity. You have to push hard to the end to make sure. I checked a demo at REI yesterday and it is normal like the 935. I think they just had a bad batch. I plan to give it a few weeks and then exchange it. Called garmin tech support and they said it was literally their first call on the 945. They got their 945 and it did not have the issue. Very professional and took it seriously. My experience with them is they will make it right and exchange the unit if you are beyond the retail return period
We have escalated this issue to our engineers but we need any user experiencing this to reach out to our Product Support team directly. This can be done via support.garmin.com. We will gladly work with you to get a replacement as soon as possible, but we need to evaluate any devices showing this symptom directly, and this cannot be achieved through our forums.
Thank you! I have my THIRD 945 coming tomorrow as I have exchanged two units with the retailer already, the second of which was much worse than the first. If this third unit has the same problem I will reach out to support for sure.
I've crossed over to either just returning to store or pursuing a replacement with Garmin (thanks Garmin-Blake for posting that). It's just too frustrating to use. I have a 645 and don't ever think about the buttons. With the 945 I think about them constantly. Today my down button started acting up in addition to the back button. For me during my run or hike I turn Key Vibe on and it seems okay (sort of masks the issue). However, I intended the 945 to be my everyday watch and Key Vibe is too aggressive for around the office...
You're absolutely right about the "double click." You have to push the button in a little before it starts resisting. There's just too much play. Personally I can live with it, but I worry it'll be a liability when I go to sell the watch next upgrade cycle. In any case, I'd rather wait a few months to exchange it until the first batch runs out.
I guess the biggest question I have about the Mushy/sticky buttons is, do they still do what they're supposed to be doing? Like, if I hit the Start button, does it accomplish the task I need it to? I don't care about the mushiness of the buttons; I don't even notice it on my 935. I mean, I just had to check which of those buttons were mushy and which weren't because I didn't know. For the record, Start/Down are mushy, while Light/Up/Back click, and all this on a two year 935. All buttons work with no problems, ever.
As long as the button functions I don't care, so, are they working?
Mee too. Kind of weird that the older one is better, where's the improvement.
I think everything "clicks" on 945, but not so constant feeling as in 935.
And if I try to push slowly the buttons.. every other buttons when it gives ups will make a button press, but not the down. It has some give that you can press it down before it registers button push.
So it like has two phases, first it goes in a little but does not do anything and then if I continue to press it clicks and registers the button press.
Yep. Overall feeling is not as good as 935, but if I press them down enough they click.
And if I press slowly them other buttons gives up it clicks and registers a press, except my down, which goes down but no button press, I need to press more and then it clicks and registers the button press.
So yes, one button has this "double click" feeling, but how bad is this? Can I live with it? Will it fail later in a annoying moment, or will those keep working or not. Would be nice to see some analysis from Garmin later for the issue, what does it mean for the users having buttons having this "double press" feature.
