(Known Issue) GPS Recorded Track Shifted by FAR with Respect to the Map

I had a weird issue today. It seems that Garmin put my recorded activity track over 300m to the left with respect to where I in fact actually ran. This is the screenshot I got from this activity. It never happened before. Of course, the GPS signal was acquired prior to starting the activity. Is there a way to solve it?

  • You can try chatting to someone here: support.garmin.com/.../

  • Thank you Garmin for ruining my yesterday race stats. Besides recorded time everything else is garbage.

  • There's already about a hundred threads discussing this issue. Try searching the forum.

  • I've tried a search and this is certainly the most relevant thread especially under the FR245. Where are all these other threads, is there a 'main' one and importantly are there any solutions as yet?

  • Where are all these other threads, is there a 'main' one

Currently an issue with several of the Garmin x45 series, fenix 6, and vivoactive 4 watches

  • @seilogramp  thank you. So looking at these threads it appears to be an issue with the newer Sony chipset watches? I know I'm not getting this issue with my old VA3 only my FR245.

  • The GPS on my Forerunner 245 has reached truly stunning levels of weirdness. My first guess was a software upgrade around 6/27/2022 broke it, but now I think the GPS receiver on my watch may be broken.

Here's what happened: I started using my Forerunner 245 in May 2020. I run, and bike, pretty much the same small set of runs/rides all the time. The GPS has worked really well. On June 28, 2022, I ran one of my same old runs (LR08.png). The red line shows where the GPS thought I was that day. The blue line is the correct path. I wrote it off to maybe having forgotten to make sure I synced the watch to get the latest GPS config (even though I was pretty sure I did). On July 3, 2022, I ran another one of my same old runs (LR12.png). Again, the red line is where GPS thought I ran that day. The blue line is the correct path. This one is truly bizarre. In this case, the red and blue lines match up exactly until about mile 7.5 of a 12 mile run. (You can see the red line peaking out from under the blue line in a few places. Otherwise, it's right under the blue line until mile 7.5.) Then, apparently, I took off southeast, did a little loop-de-loop, headed cross country through a bunch of housing developments, and ended up two miles from my home.

    Data points:

6/28/2022: First sign of problems. Not only is GPS shifted, but the out and back portions of the run don't even line up.
6/29/2022: GPS works fine on a 24 mile bike ride.
6/30/2022: GPS works fine on a 10 mile run, on the same course that had problems on 6/28.
7/02/2022: GPS works fine on a 47 mile bike ride.
7/03/2022: GPS works fine for the first 7.5 miles of a 12 mile run. The last 4.5 miles are shifted about 2 miles SE.
7/04/2022: GPS works fine on a 28 mile bike ride.

I have software version 10.40 on my device.

I always make sure the CPE.bin file is up to date just before a run/ride. I use Sync on Garmin Express and check the time stamp of the file on the device to make sure it's been updated.

I'm using the GPS + GLONASS option.

So... is anybody else experiencing similar problems? Or is it just me?

  • Mine has been jumping to phone towers all over the place, and not even remotely accurate, but I have been running in the city. Will test at home and on standard app. Was using "Walker", not sure if that changes anything.
