Rearview 820 Permanent False Postive when riding in a Group/Peloton

I have reported this to Garmin but interested if others are getting this issue.

Today I did a club ride, once I was riding at the front or mid group my Edge Computer showed a cyclist on screen permanently, this meant the radar overlay was permanently on screen and the lights flashed and no doubt annoyed the group riders behind me, the 515 did not suffer at all like this and ignored riders in a pelaton.

I changed the light setting to peloton mode but that no difference, not surprised it made no difference as that is a light setting but I thought it was worth a try.

I suspect this is the new algorithm which stops same speed vehicles disappearing, but it renders the unit virtually useless and annoying when riding in a group, fo sure it can be fixed with a software update, but this is bad news for anybody riding in the group until it is fixed.

exactly the same behavior for me, 4 hours of group riding and 4 hours of overlay on the display and 4 hours of flashing in radar threat mode. Then I was banished to the back of the peloton. Today I am returning the device.

Looks like a bug, but this guy seems to have discovered a workaround solution to get it working properly in Peloton mode.

Apparently, you're getting individual mode just now when selecting Peloton via the Edge. When you select Peloton, press It twice; then it apparently works. I suspect Garmin will be able to fix this fairly fast.

I had it in Peloton mode and it showed that on my computer, but I will try your suggestion of hitting it twice on my next group ride, that is an easy fix for both myself and Garmin , thanks for the info that is greatly appreciated

Playing with the edge & Varia820 & it’s only if you have it set to Auto, Peloton seems to stick if you have it on individual.

Ummm... I am questioning wether or not it was in peloton mode during the whole ride now, I certainly clicked it on and I know the light changed on the radar when I did, I guess peloton mode was deselected on the edge and I didn't notice, but for sure the radar light did not change away from peloton, but at least it is something I can verify on Saturday during my next group ride.

Did my first ride with it today, managed to pick up a stranger that was desperately looking for some shelter from the cross winds.. it was annoying in peloton mode.

solutions to try when you have riders with you -

1. Swipe down, select SOUNDS and turn off the tones. (now tested & you can't turn off or reduce the constant radar sounds in Peloton modein a group)

2. go to the sensor settings turn off the two different threat bars overlays.

3. Set the threat column to the small setting.

Garmin came back to me saying it is working as intended, I have escalated it and asked them to review it again, if they believe this is OK then I'll send it back and buy the new Sigma Rico.

Turning off the radar in anyway defeats the whole idea of having one, Garmin may not see it as a fail, I do, my group on Saturday had 10 people, 8 of them had Garmin radar, I can say with absolute certainty not one of them will buy this new one.

There is a setting on the Varia app to disabled threat level flashing, ie the "Radar Threat Mode" toggle button
