Follow looigi's instructions to go back to 7.1 and restore your settings. Works well. I'm at 7.1 and have tried various firmware updates as they have come along. 7.1 is still the most stable.

I am also about to downgrade to 7.10, because Garmin do not show the slightest willingness to deal with this bug. Or if they do deal with it, they decided not to speak about it.

Chiming in here as I had the same experience on a ride yesterday. Edge 830 shut off during my ride. Initially I thought it was because the low temperature maybe killed the battery, but it wasn't that cold - about 30 degrees F - and my ride was only about 90 minutes and I started with 75% battery. I was almost done with my ride, so I left it off. When I got home and plugged it in, it showed 54% battery.
This thread was at the top of the forum, so I just read through it and it seems it is not cold weather related, but rather a glitch in the latest firmware update.
Same here today. Has happened numerous times over the past few weeks. Have factory reset it at least twice. Garmin has been in business for how many years? Time to look elsewhere.

I'd expect a factory set not being successful as there won't be deleted ALL data.
Can Garmin provide instructions which folders contain user content an can be cleaned up?

As I do not expect any answer to this problem from Garmin I'll try to find a solution myself and reseted the Edge the hard way: I formatted the mounted Volume (needs to be FAT32 and quick format will do it) on the PC and reinstalled everything from scratch.
Next rides will tell if this changed any of the problems (reboots and disconnection of sensors).
It happened again to me 2 days ago, 600m missing from my ride by the time I noticed it. Data except training effect and fluids was still ok.
Garmin doesn't appear to be interested in sorting this major bug out.
