2x respiration rate since Feb 18 2025

Hi, does anyone notice after the firmware update the respiration rate become 2x or almost 2x of real value? My Fenix 8, Tactix 7 are like that. Then last night I pair my old Venu 3, it gives my a proper value. This morning, I got a new Venu 3 firmware update, after the update, it becomes as bad as my Fenix 8.

I use other devices such as the Clinic grade Masimo to check and compare my respiration rate, yes, it confirms Fenix 8 is indeed not showing proper value.

  • I have called customer support but not take me serious asking me to do all kind of stuffs. That’s why I get the clinic grade Masimo and Apple Watch to verify it is not my health before I go see my MD.In this case, it is Garmin ‘s issue.

to see is to belive, Watch this YouTube,  Anyone with a right mind will want to find out if it is their health problem when there is a sudden jump.

I have been Garmin customer since forunner 645, Tactix 6, instinct , Venu, Fenix 6, Fenix 7, Tactix 7, epi 2 pro , until Fenix 8,

May be it is time to switch to Apple Watch. When company grow, old customer is no longer value.

  • What most don’t know is the breathing rate is related to the blood pressure. Those who practice breath work of be able to lower the breathing rate to 10 breath per min has positive effect to manage their blood pressure. Such as in this practice.

so when one has the sleeping breathing rate suddenly jump  higher significantly such as 1.7x of usual. There is a medical concern.

I have been using Garmin watch to track breathing rate since 2022. I have data to prove. Garmin needs to keep its quality control when promoting the gen 5 heart rate sensor and 1000$USD Fenix and Tactix. What is the point to buy such an expensive watch with fundamental bug? Using customers to debug the bug is not acceptable. If tomorrow your sleeping heart rate jump high for a week, than what, see the MD for check up?

  • In my case, nothing has changed since February 18th...

  • This exact thing happened to me on February 18th as well. Years worth of consistent respiration rate and then at 4pm on the 18th it went crazy and stayed that way with inaccurate readings and wild fluctuations in value that do not align with reality. Case opened with Garmin.

  • Another data point for a noticeable change around 19/2. My Whoop data is consistent during the same period.

  • My Sleep respiration rate has been 12-13 with my fenix 7 from the day i got it until Feb 18th when an update was installed, now it is 20bpm sleeping and 15bpm when awake.  There is definitely an issue with the update.

  • I wish Garmin fix it asap!
The Apple Watch os11’s daily health status are: sleeping —- heart rate, breathing rate, temperature, and time.

it is just not making any sense to make things complex but doesn’t take care of the basic vital elements such as breathing rate.

  • Thank goodness I checked this forum. My Venu 3 sleep respiration rate has jumped from 10-12 to 18-20 over the past couple of weeks.  I thought something was wrong with me, but I see now that it’s a faulty FW update.  I will open a ticket with support as well.

  • FYI, I just checked and a new update was issued for my Fenix 7, firmware version 20.22, previous version was 20.16.  maybe this fixes it.
    Check for updates,
