2x respiration rate since Feb 18 2025

Hi, does anyone notice after the firmware update the respiration rate become 2x or almost 2x of real value? My Fenix 8, Tactix 7 are like that. Then last night I pair my old Venu 3, it gives my a proper value. This morning, I got a new Venu 3 firmware update, after the update, it becomes as bad as my Fenix 8.

I use other devices such as the Clinic grade Masimo to check and compare my respiration rate, yes, it confirms Fenix 8 is indeed not showing proper value.

  • The latest updates have also reduced the battery life and seem to be sending HRV on a downward trend as well.  Increased detection range is fine IF it is accurately calculating the respiration rate. It is not.

  • Hi.  I completed two meditations counting my breaths.  One was 3 minutes and the other 4 minutes.  I uploaded 4 screenshots:  one each for 3-minute Overview and Stats and one pair for 4-minutes.

In the Overviews I added notes regarding the breaths that I counted during the sessions.  As you can see, the data is grossly different between what I observed and what my Venu 3 reported.  Using the 4 minute meditation as an example, I counted 24 breaths during the entire four minutes, giving me an average of 6 breaths per minute.

As you can see in the Stats page for that screenshot, Garmin reported Average brpm of 17, minimum 12 and max 23.  These numbers are not even CLOSE to my observed 6 brpm.

If you need any more data, please let me know, but consider this more data that states that the Garmin BRPM calculation algorithm is very, very inaccurate.  Please have them take another look and do their own observations.

I just completed a breathwork activity. With one breath per 16 seconds. Which is 3.75 brpm. My watch says I was at 7-8 bpm. The same activity prior to the update showed 4 brpm. I understand what engineering is telling you, but for me the values are not just more variable or different they are wrong compared to manually counting breaths. Also the old method was more accurate by far for me.

Does accuracy get validated prior to roll out?

  • I am also having this issue. Did a 15 minute breathing exercise with an inhale/exhale cycle being 15 seconds or 4 brpm. The garmin activity shows a minimum brpm of 8 at the very beginning and never dipped below 11 at any further point. It showed an average of 15 brpm across the entire meditation with a maximum of 20 brpm (which is practically hyperventilating).

Not even close to what I was getting beforehand. I echo many of the sentiments shared by several users. I’ve tried different apps, activity types (yoga, meditation, breathwork), and timeframes and it’s all messed up. I’d bet my house and everything I own that there is a problem.
