Fenix 6 Series - 19.20 Public Release

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

We understand this post of 19.20 is in reverse of what we usually do, but nevertheless, we didn't want to miss an opportunity to post the public release candidate, which is now rolling out to 20% of users. We know many are eager to begin using this update. Enjoy!

Please ensure that you are downloading the correct beta software for your specific device.

Instructions for installation are available below the change log on each of the above pages.

  • Unfortunately, battery life since update is extremely bad. 3 days and I'm down 70% to around 20% left, with very little activity. Previously, I would be down only 40-50% for similar activity. Fenix 6 Pro, no other changes to settings since update and did a restart of the watch a day after the update.

Same for me. Higher consumption has been monitored since 19.20.

I got sometimes 1.5% by hour in battery saving mode !! Not really happy.
Find myself lurking over Instinct Solar more and more....

  • Battery consumption has been good on my 6X with this update, I don't use the battery widget but I do know that the last time I charged it was 10 days ago, and it says I have 12 days left. I actually haven't had any battery issues for quite some time now, I want to say the last firmware that caused an issue for me was like 8.xx

If you're having major battery drain issues, might be worth clearing off junk that might be causing it. CIQ watchfaces and widgets and such. I have a suspicion that the battery widget itself actually increases battery drain to some extent as well. I'd always recommend to everybody to get rid of that widget and just monitor your battery drain the old fashioned way - make a note of when you last charged it, and see how long it takes to die.

  • Dear Garmin,

Since the update to 19.20 my condition performance, VO2max and training status stopped working. The Connect app still shows the training intensity bars, but these are not reflected in the graph nor the training status. The watch does not show the bars either. VO2max is also not determined after a training; see Figure below for details.

From the changelog I see that issues were "improved" regarding power meter calibration and settings and "fixed" regarding heart rate straps; Both I use. For me nothing was fixed only broken as it seems. Could you please tell me what went wrong?

It goes without saying that this is very frustrating. Thanks for looking into this.

Top: The bars as in the connect app. Middle: the graph not showing the last three bars (training after the update). Bottom: The watch not showing any bars.

  • Excessive battery drain happened to me too, and it didn't improve after several reboots.
I also manually reinstalled the software (same version) but the battery drain remained.
In June I had set the plussimetry detection (Pulse Ox) 24 hours a day but back then, I had not detected an excessive increase in battery consumption.
With the software update to 19.20, something has probably changed, because as soon as I set the Pulse Ox detection only at night, the battery consumption returned to normal.

My fenix 6x pro, unplugged in the morning at 6:30 at 100%, in the evening at 21:00 was at 96% with 40 minutes of running activity done today.
Yesterday, with Pulse Ox activated, it consumed 24% charge without activity.
Maybe he just needed to settle down.
In the next few days I will try to reactivate the Pulse Ox 24 hours a day and see if consumption is affected.

  • will try to reactivate the Pulse Ox 24 hours a day and see if consumption is affected.

There won’t be any surprises. Battery usage will increase massively.

  • After realese I have problem with battery, every day i lose more then 15% without long workout doing. For example in the morning I have 40% now at 1.pm I have 24%. Iam sitting only without workouts.

  • Jeez, I´m also hit with the training load/training effect bug on 19.20.
I hope that Garmin resolves it faster than they did with the Fenix 5 calories counting bug back then when it took several months to get it straight:

Hard reset did not help btw:
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/7485995413 (that warm-up should have about 0.8 training effect, about 10 training load and should have burned about 100 calories)

  • I have a suspicion that the battery widget itself actually increases battery drain to some extent as well.

I'm also suspicious but I have noticed big drains of more than 1% without any CIQ watchface or any monitoring.... but on Battery Saving mode.
Excuse my French but I use Fenixes for 5 years now and I can spot when I got a strange behaviour in the way the battery is drained too and this is strange and unreliable since 19.20... ;-)

  • Same problem, more than 30% drain daily with no excericise recorded

  • I know you didn't reply to me but wanted to illustrate that at least I'm having battery issues and don't IMO have junk on my watch. In fact I've been very careful to not load up with stuff from, for example, ConnectIQ. I think i've literally got two apps from it (deliberately selected to plug activity gaps).

Some people might be suffering from excess battery depletion due to too many apps or perhaps poorly coded apps or watch faces which are in fact drains on power - so your point is a good one - but that doesn't apply to all those experiencing issues.

Not having a pop at you at all btw. I know you're giving contrasting, relevant feedback.
