Fenix 6X Pro No Wi-Fi Networks Found 16.60

Same as on 16.30, now on 16.60 Wi-Fi does not connect no matter what.

Garmin, can you please fix this, I can no longer use Music services.

After searching for Wi-Fi networks, and get the infamous "No Wi-Fi Networks Found" or the watch gets disconnected from the phone via bluetooth and need to restart the watch, or watch freezes with the wi-fi searching screen and also have to do a force restart of the watch.

Please fix asap.

  • Thanks for the information? Is you watch now working normally now?

  • Unfortunately no, not yet. The garmin webupdater utility says "cool! you are running the most up to date version (16.60)" no updates needed! It gives you the option to "reinstall" and it auto-suggests 15.20 as the "new" software - it looks like its going to work and then when it gets to 100% you get a "corrupt file" error. You should try it out and see if it works for you. After hours of trying to get my system to recognize my watch being connected via USB this felt like a real breakthough.

I think this will be the way the watch gets fixed - but that its going to need an incremental patch from garmin to work.

  • Many thanks for your suggestion. Webupdater (2.5.8) did connect, and I got to the point where it reported that the latest version (16.60) is already installed, but I was not offered any option to reinstall.

  • Are you using windows or mac?

Here is what I see on my mac:

  • In my country (Singapore) the Garmin warranty is one year. In any event, I bought my unit from Amazon US, so it would have been a great hassle even just getting the hardware examined by Garmin.

  • I'm on windows. This is what I get:

  • Darn. Any friends with a mac you could borrow for 2 min :) ?

  • Thanks for the update, I’ll give it a try.

  • I dunno if I'm just not seeing the problems, but my 6x Pro is working 100% with 16.60. Is there anyone else that 16.60 is working fine for? In smart watch mode I'm getting about 5% battery drain per day. Don't know is there are things I might have disabled that is giving it good battery life, but it seems to be ok?

  • The primary issue SOME users are having (like me) is primarily around broken/corrupt wifi firmware that wasn't installed properly somehow during the 16.60 firmware upgrade process.

The knock-on effect(s) of this wifi firmware corruption:

    • Poor battery life (watch tries and tries to connect to the wifi network, even though it's not able to)
    • Impacts Bluetooth connectivity (to phones, and other devices like workout gear/equipmemt)
    • Inability to connect to PC/MAC over USB (although this may be unrelated to 16.60 - TBD)

If you have wifi turned off, and never use USB connected to a PC/MAC to connect to Garmin Express, you would NEVER KNOW if you had this issue. I DO have the corrupt wifi software, and with Wifi disabled on my watch - it performs PERFECTLY! The downside being i cant use wifi (for music and other sync) or connect to my PC/MAC for Garmin Express software updates etc.

So you are either a) unaffected - most likely, or b) you are affected but just don't know because you don't use Wifi or connect to a PC/MAC via USB.

FYI if you want to know if you have been affected by the bugs in 16.60 for certain, just check the version of Wifi your watch is running:

    • If it says 2.6 - you are OK, not affected.

    • If it says 655.XX - your wifi firmware is corrupt/missing, and you are affected

To check, go to: system > about > page down a few times until you see software versions for GPS, WiFi, etc...

Here is a picture of my watch, featuring the broken wifi firmware.
