Corrupted swim files

Seems to happening with increasing frequency now. As soon as I ended my swim the screen went straight to the blue triangle screen. I've also had times in the past where it shows up in Garmin connect as a multisport event - with just a swim. Garmin Connect, Strava and TrainingPeaks don't recognise the file. Garmin support have not been helpful over email. Going to call tomorrow.

I cannot click into the activity data on the watch and the swim icon just has a dotted line icon instead of being filled in and blue.

Any one else experiencing this issue?

  • Did someone tested the procedure I suggested in my last answer of 4 days ago (save command during the total distance screen)?

  • It has happened to me again today. On Christmas Eve I decided to go for a long swim. 5,550m and when I push "save" the watch crashes. It didn't save the activity but I could find the fit file connecting to my laptop. What a disgrace!!

Running latest software (13.10), but It has happened many times since this summer on different software versions. I'm tired of doing the hard reset, looking for sensors and setting-up the fields as I want them. Hard reset does not work

  • Look at my answer of the 17th of December

  • Very interesting! I'll try that on a non-meaningful session (got a fenix 3 for the important ones). Maybe the times it didn't crash were because of that.

  • Despite doing a watch reset a couple of weeks ago, I had a crash yesterday after doing an outside pool, customisable length swim. Very annoying. I've had no problems with my usual 33 1/3m training pool but every time I do a session not in that pool. i,e with a different length it crashes

  • Yes I did it today but had the blue death triangle! Sob

  • Thank God I keep using my olf Fenix 3 for swimming... I had my doubts today to use the Fenix 6 and follow advice but given your results I'm grateful I didn't.

  • An update for everyone. In October I called support regarding this issue and they told me to factory reset the watch - it worked for a month then started crashing again so I sent in the activity folder as requested in December. It must have been missed because I never got a reply.

I have just got off the phone with support as the watch was crashing with increase frequency. Garmin claim this isnt a known issue, I even referenced this post and the number of complaints but they said they dont check the customer forums *eyeroll*.

They offered me two solutions: engineeing will have a look at my activity files and see if they can find out what the issue is or they could send me a refurb Fenix 6 model. I said I'd like engineering to take a look because if its a software bug then it'll most likely be present on a refurb model. Pretty unimpressed to be honest.

  • That might not be the case; a replacement might be the solution.. I've not swam in a pool much since October, maybe only once or twice and not had any problems. However, I do know others who are pool swimming without issues. For instance:

    https://www.strava.com/activities/4617774674

    and

    www.strava.com/.../4600172724

  • Incredible! I had the support 1 month ago and they told me exactly the opposite.

Seems that, depending on the person you reach they have very different informations... It's unacceptable to have such a bad support and no way to obtain any bug fixing.
