Corrupted swim files

Seems to happening with increasing frequency now. As soon as I ended my swim the screen went straight to the blue triangle screen. I've also had times in the past where it shows up in Garmin connect as a multisport event - with just a swim. Garmin Connect, Strava and TrainingPeaks don't recognise the file. Garmin support have not been helpful over email. Going to call tomorrow.

I cannot click into the activity data on the watch and the swim icon just has a dotted line icon instead of being filled in and blue.

Any one else experiencing this issue?

  • Lucky You! At least your pool is open. All pools over here are closed due to Covid.

Feel free to attach your workouts here I will fix them.

Thank you for taking this further with Garmin!

Just saw your update Cookies - I look forward to hearing if Garmin provide any solution as my Fenix 6S is having the same problem.

  • Same issue for me. The fist time it happened was, more or less, when hackers attacked the Garmin servers. I did a master reset and, like you, it worked well for a while.
I tried different reset but every time the issue returns (today and yesterdat the lasts).
Happy to see I'm not alone. Waiting for a solution from Garmin...

EDIT: with FFRT https://www.fitfilerepairtool.info/ the sessions can be recovered well

  • Still waiting to hear back from Garmin but have sent in two additional files to them for analysis.

One is the same issue we are all having - trying to save a pool swim crashes the watch, the file does not auto upload to GC app and when you connect watch to computer to manual upload the file GC does not accept it.

And an issue that is infrequent is the pool swim crashes the watch, but then shows in GC app as a multisport event. WTF is going on with Garmin software here!?!?!

  • Same here  - saving pool session crashes F6s, and  (in my case) the activity shows as Multisport after synching in GC.

Did email files in as well to beta program.

  • I’m rarely pool swimming now as the sea’s warming up but I have friends who are and not seeing the problem:

    https://www.strava.com/activities/4409845688

    https://www.strava.com/activities/4410703486

    One F6s and one F6X.

Hard to know what else to offer really. Any add-ons that might be interfering?

  • I got both the issue and I can repair these kind of errors using FFRT tool.

When I open the file that is never uploaded to Connect (and not the one that is uploaded as multisport) the tool says me that is missing the expected summary at the end of the activity file. This is reasonable, as the Fenix crashes and reboots right while saving the file, when generating the summary.

But I still haven't figured out what kind of error it is when the activity is loaded as multisport.

  • I suspect the problem is caused by the active connection with the phone while saving.
For several days I have been saving my swim activities by keeping the watch underwater to make sure it is not connected via bluetooth with the phone during the saving (I always keep the phone next to the pool).
Since the saves happen without the watch being paired with the phone I have not had any more corrupted files.

Can you check if this is a working solution for you too?

  • Unfortunately not, my phone stays at home when I visit the gym's pool.  The blue triangle happens on saving, even when 'offline;.

  • I tried something similar. I tested with my phone in airplane mode and it saved the activity correctly two times. The third time it failed again (Garmin rebooted itself before finishing the save)
