Fenix 6 Pro GPS Problem accuracy

Hi,

I am experiencing problems with GPS accuracy. On certain occasions it seems that the signal is lost and the precision is lost by more than 4 meters.
Currently i hace this config:

  • Data recording  every second
  • GPS + GLONASS
  • 3D speed On
  • 3D distance On

I've been reset several time the watch and the problem persist. and doesn't seem a problem with the tree or the weather. There is not any building nearby or great structures that can obstruct the signal

Please take a look

Hi Again.

Same problema. Only GPS config.

I'm very disappointed with the precision of the watch. It's obvious that are more than 10m of gap

  • I just finished chatting with customer support. I had a really interesting conversation when I was complaining about my latest and worst case of GPS malfunction. I was running in an urban area, and although I don't expect perfect performance, it placed me somewhere else on the map and was displaying a pace of 1:30 minutes per kilometer. At that pace, I could probably break all world records in running.

Support said that GPS accuracy can be influenced by tall buildings and trees. My question, which I didn't ask since it’s clear their priority is no longer to sell quality products, is how on earth can they say that when they are selling a product specifically targeted at runners, who probably live in cities, and hikers?

My conclusion: I am going to stay away from this brand in the future. Clearly, their priorities have shifted.

  • To be fair, Garmin has addressed the accuracy problem in Fenix 7, which is remarkably accurate, especially when multi-frequency GPS is enabled.

In the case of Fenix 6 it was a combination of mediocre Sony GPS chipset with the antenna design flaws that caused the poor accuracy. But other Garmin watches based on the same Sony chipset weren't very accurate either.

In Fenix 7 Garmin has switched to a different GPS chipset.

  • Fenix series didn't had perfect accuracy until the Fenix 7 line. Personelly I think Fenix 6 had better accuracy compared to older models. And at the same time its GPS chipset consumes very little power compared to previous prehistoric MTK chipset. Yeah it may experience some issues at times, but these are not new to Fenix series and even GS on other devices experience issues. For example my Fenix 6 and Fenix 7X Solar have better accuracy than my Samsung phone with Snapdragon chipset.

  • I owned both Fenix 6X and Fenix 7X. As I commented above, Fenix 6X was never truly awful but it was mediocre most of the time. The accuracy was fine on a completely open terrain, but if there were at least some trees around, it seemed to switch to the accelerometer as the source of pace and distance, which made the pace consistently slow and the distance consistently short. In my experience, when running on trails my Fenix 6X was on average about 5% short. Furthermore, the distance often depended on the pace - the faster I ran the shorter distance it measured.

I upgraded from 6X to 7X for the improved distance and pace accuracy alone. 7X is way more accurate.
