Fenix 6 Pro GPS Problem accuracy

Hi,

I am experiencing problems with GPS accuracy. On certain occasions it seems that the signal is lost and the precision is lost by more than 4 meters.
Currently i hace this config:

  • Data recording  every second
  • GPS + GLONASS
  • 3D speed On
  • 3D distance On

I've been reset several time the watch and the problem persist. and doesn't seem a problem with the tree or the weather. There is not any building nearby or great structures that can obstruct the signal

Please take a look

Hi Again.

Same problema. Only GPS config.

I'm very disappointed with the precision of the watch. It's obvious that are more than 10m of gap

  • becouse in the same circumstances 700$ sport computer has much worse accuracy than even 30$ sport band.

  • We dont know it because it is not validated with a footpod/Stryd. I think who wanna get accurate distance (trail or normal running) must use these , the GPS datas (and the distance from these points) are so inaccurate with low speed + multipath errors with these wristwatches...

  • Please post the original .fit file from the watch. Or a link to the connect upload, thats fine to....

  • I didnt write it becouse I thought it is obvious.
I (black line - garmin 6 pro) WAS RUNNING ON THE WHITE ROAD with my friend (green line - garmin 5)

Haha, you've now edited and completed your post.

what tides? on the lake? Read and think before you post.

In the original post it wasn't clear whether you run on the road or on the beach. Furthermore from the pic it's still not clear, whether the water is an ocean, a lake or a river. So I've assumed you run on a beach beside an ocean and there are tides. So far I've seen some traces from users that run on a beach at an ocean and they've complained their traces in the water. But they are run at low tide and since Google maps doesn't simulate tides, it's clearly a mapping error. Furthermore there is no scale available for the estimation of the size between road, green trace and black trace.

What's wrong on my interpretation of this, so that you blame me here with your abusive post. Rather you're not able to generate a clear post. Obviously you're a choleric character w/o any technological background which permanently complain about inaccurate traces using old pics. Please keep in mind that in the meantime there are made some enhancements in the accuracy of the traces.

BTW: Since you downgrade my post and upgrade many of your own post, that shows what kind of poster you're. It's rather that you think before you post.

I have been running (actually walking) numerous tests this month on my daily dog walk with different watches and with/without Stryd. Day to day there will be small and very rare variations for social distancing and backtracking or stopping for "waste management", but I try always to walk the same course. Most trails I use are single file, so deviation from the route is minimal.

There is a very clear pattern emerging, with Stryd producing figures around 3.9km each day and the 6X without Stryd producing figures around 4km. So, whatever is right or wrong, it does not seem that the 6X is cutting short the distance covered. If slow pace is part of the problem a dog walk is surely a good example of slow pace. :-)

Here are some results from recent days.

The terrain is a mixture of suburban streets, woodland and open fields. The tracks below are from my 6X (green) and V800 (red) today and also the 6X (blue) yesterday.

  • You are right. This post reminded me how much time and money I have lost since september 2019 becouse garmin experts forced me to think that the device I got is better than it really is.
There is absolutely nobody in this post who post information that he had such problems and FIXED it and proved it. And that was the reason of this post. Somebody wanted to contact people who HAD such problem. He didnt want to hear how great is the device, or to change settings. We all already did it.

  • garmin experts forced me

    No-one forces you.

So feel free to send back your F6 and buy $30 watch. With this you save money, time and nerves.

I've looked a long time thoroughly for tests of many watches of many brands and I've found that all watches have the same issues (GPS and OHR). So at present we've to live with this. But hopefully there would be enhancements in the hardware, especially the Sony chip seems the problem. I think it's mainly a problem of the hardware, not of the tuning by SW. Tuning ony by SW has the disadvantage that "One man's meat is another man's suffering".

  • In the ratings at Amazon there is a user which complains that his Berlin Marathon was measured by Vantage only with 39.88km. Since he run faster than expected, this is advantagous Grinning. But in my marathons so far I've had only the reverse and therefore passed my planned finish time Frowning2.

  • I agree with you. Older watches were more accurate, but not always by a huge margin, and all recent watches have their problem. I bought a Suunto 9 to compare by myself, and even if the Fenix has some real problems (the distance accuracy mostly), I found that the Suunto has its share of issues also. But all modern watches offer improvements also. It's just that if  you come down to the CORE use of a sport watch, GPS, distance, pace, it's less good. That's the current price for the huge battery life. We win something, we lost something. The price went up though, and for reasons (materials, music, maps, etc...) that are not critical for a sport use. So I can understand that some people are disappointed, it's a valid point. On the other hand, I think we are also complaining sometimes about data that are not that critical. If my watch is 500m short on a 15km distance, how important is it in the end ? I don't win races. I still run the 15km. Maybe it can make a difference during a race, I can go a bit faster, yes. And some years ago, they had nothing of all that, and were happier as us. We are demanding because those watches are very expensive now. But maybe we are too demanding. When you see what a 85gr device on our wrist can do, it's pretty impressive. I try to compare to make sure I give the money to the one doing the best job and not just to anybody because it's a new model. But there are still a lot of whiners in my opinion...

  • "We dont know it..." i wrote it about my friend's Vantage V's track what i posted,
