All Weather Widget Issues - Post Here

If you do not see your weather updating on your Fenix 6 series watch, please try the following steps:

1) Ensure your watch software is fully up to date and your Connect Mobile APP has been updated.

2) Open the Connect Mobile APP and sync your watch

3) Power your smartphone off and on

4) Power your watch off and on

If still an issue:

5) Step outside and acquire GPS with any outdoor activity

6) Hard Reset - with your watch on, hold down your power button until it shuts off (you will not lose any settings with this reset)

- Also, on all iPhones, due to how iOS works with the GCM APP, you must leave the Garmin Connect Mobile APP open on your phone to remain updated. This does not require you leave your phone unlocked or the APP running in the foreground. When you first sync each day, leave the GCM APP in the background in suspend with all of the other items you have on your smartphone. Do not force close it out.

Your smartphone settings are also an impact:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app
  2. Select   (upper left corner)
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select App Permissions
  5. Ensure Location is ON.  If not, select Manage (right side in blue)
  6. Select Permissions
  7. Enable Location
  8. Tap the back arrow at the top left to back out and save these settings
  9. Power off and then power back on the Garmin device (where applicable), and sync it through the Garmin Connect app

NOTE: For optimal performance of the Garmin Connect app, ensure that all permission settings are set to on and location set to always for the Connect APP.

Apple

  1. Open the Settings menu on the phone
  2. Select Privacy
  3. Select Location Services
  4. Toggle on if needed
  5. Select Connect from the list of apps on the Location Services screen
  6. Ensure ALLOW LOCATION ACCESS is set to Always
  7. Power off and then power back on the Garmin device (where applicable), and sync it through the Garmin Connect app

Here is our Support Center article for the Weather Widget - The Weather Widget is Not Displaying

For me personally and those I have reached out to, on our Fenix 6 watches, if we do not see the weather updated, we sync through the GCM APP and typically within 30-90 seconds, it will update and show the temperature properly again.

  • Why does it stop updating for hours even connected to the phone?

  • It is difficult to say but I first started noticing the behavior change around the same time smartphone battery performance heated up between Apple, Google, and Samsung. After Apple and Google made the much needed software updates in Android and iOS, needing to occasionally sync through the Connect APP or having to fully close the Connect APP and re-open it again to re-establish a connection, became more common.

  • I have now done several tests on my Honor 10.
My location is rarely updated in the Garmin app.
I have the same problem when I open a weather page on my mobile phone using the Chrome browser. The location there is almost never right. And the displayed location in the browser is the same as with my Minutecast widget on the Watch.
If I open a weather app on my phone, the correct location will be displayed in this app. But not on my watch.
    Is there an explanation?

  • Apple iPhones and Google Android phones have their own weather APP being provided as a default APP. Our Connect Mobile APP does not receive data from them. The weather widget information comes from regional legacy weather stations found across the world at most airports that broadcast across the internet.

In a situation where you are not close enough to those broadcast locations, you can either remove your watch for 5-10 minutes and use your built in temperature sensor on your Fenix 6 series watch or if you still have cellular connection, use the weather APP on your smartphone.

  • Still doesn’t explain why I see the NOW and HI/L temperatures but rarely virtually never the weather detail from the weather widget.

  • Do you have iPhone or Android?

  • It would be great to have wind speed in m/s instead of km/h. I have trouble putting in to perspective since I’m so used to measure wiind speed in m/s in Sweden.

  • Since a month or so whenever I'd like to check weather forecast I have to do all this steps with app close and open and sync because at first shot I get "waiting for data". In much shorter time I just could grab my phone and check it in a second so why do I need weather widget on my F6X????

  • The weather widget is a tool for when you are close enough to a regional airport and need to see an accurate temperature.

I personally prefer using my iPhone first too but when I want the temperature when I am out rural hiking, I prefer to remove my watch 5-10 minutes and use the build in temperature sensor on my Fenix 6X Pro Solar.

  • I do not need super accurate temperature measures, my case is to quick check whether any rain is forecast as I'm going to go for a ride in next 2 hour or what to wear for a long walk, for that weather widget was great for me, few clicks and I'm good to go.

I was happy to have it and it was much faster than phone and now when I get used to it it's not working smooth as before so I wan to have it again! :)
