5.77 Change Log Notes:

  • Fixed an issue where the device would crash when starting a POI search right after canceling an 'Around Me' search.
  • Fixed an issue where features that auto-enable during the sleep window were not working as expected. (For Ex: Battery Saver.)
  • Made some improvements to the DogTracker widget.
  • Made several other bug fixes and code improvements.

We have temporarily removed in-activity data field editing in this beta. We have identified a few bugs and while they are difficult to reproduce, we do not want our customers to experience these issues. When these bugs are resolved, this feature will be added back in to software.

Current beta peripheral software version numbers below. New versions are indicated in red.

GPS: 2.70
Sensor Hub: 4.20
ANT/BLE/BT (Pro models): 4.30

Please send all bug reports to [email protected], and indicate which model of the Fenix 6 Series you have in the subject line.

  • I have suspicions that one of their programmers is one of the few people who has, and frequently uses, a garmin dog tracking collar with a Fenix. And thus, that's how bugs with it get found and addressed so frequently.

It's sort of the only explanation, since I haven't seen a single post online from any Fenix users who say they've found glitches in the dog tracking widget, let alone anyone that even owns a tracking collar.

  • True that! My recent observation is that on open spaces track is pretty accurate. Any tree or building close to the track, however, affects immediately the accuracy. My guess would be that gps module/antenna is simply with poor quality. It's shame. I'm getting better tracks in the city from my 4 year old Fenix 3 vs current Garmin's flagship.

  • My 10 year old Garmin Forerunner 305-watch also gives much much more correct tracks in forest/hilly terrain(!)

I think the GPS antenna in F6/F6X have problems with the metal-housing of the F6/F6X. The same antenna in Forerunner 945 does not have any problems.

I measured just one run with F305/F6/Samsung S10, but have to measure several more runs. So far the F6 is 2-3% off on GPS-distance in forest/hilly terrain compared to my 10 year old F305 (and Samsung S10 phone).

I am curious if 5.77/GPS 2.70 have improved anything with regard to GPS-distance accuracy.

  • I think the sony chipset is crap. I'd rather have less battery life. but all the new watches get them now. I also have a polar vantage V and i get a different distance and it is using the same chipset :) the path looks the same but the distance is off. before i sold my 935, i also had a different value. I wonder if the Iphone GPS is better.

  • didn't have the additional file in the remoteSW folder after connecting to Garmin Express

maybe it was an old file from a former update - I noticed that not every time all files from remoteSW folder are deleted after an update

  • Note that the download instructions identify in red text which files have been updated with that beta version.

  • Before this chip, there was MTK 3333AV in all Garmin's and it was still crap with these watches; still producing randomly drawn tracks. :D So Sony chips are definitely an upgrade for me as it give much better battery life.

  • I just went back an looked at some old tracks I recorded with my VivoActive 3 Music, and my god were they awful. At the time I thought they were fine, but now when I look at them I see they look WAY worse than I'm now used to seeing with my Fenix 6. The Fenix mostly stays on course, and pretty straight lines. The VA3M tracks looked like they were made by a drunken sailor with a peg leg.

I don't know what chip the VA3M had, but I'm glad the Fenix is using the Sony chip instead of that.

  • Or an executive at Garmin or a millionaire/billionaire who knows an exec. I've seen this at my bank. Rarest bug reported through an exec would get us drop everything, get fix within a day, and even have an army attend deployment (cutover) at midnight. Lol
