Anyone STILL having heart rate accuracy issues with their Fenix 6?

Hi all,

Super frustrated, but I am still having issues with my Fenix 6S and heart rate accuracy even with the 4.20 software update. I'm wondering if it's just me or what the deal is? I had a 5S Plus before this and had no issues doing the same activities so I really don't think it's user error. My heart rate hardly reads over 110 during really vigorous exercise when my heart rate is closer to 160+. I have tried wearing on the inside of my wrist, tried my other wrist with no luck. It consistently reads 80-110 bpm the whole time. I wouldn't have bothered to upgrade if I knew this was going to be an issue. I know that wearing a chest strap is the most accurate, but I don't like to have to wear it for all of my work outs and my old Fenix was totally fine as well as my apple watch before that. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks

I have responded to comments before with a screenshot showing my HR over 100 when walking and not recording an activity. But that apparently was not good enough.

It never got over 100 even as I was walking for 10 minutes to my home after my run (it should have been over 100 all the time).

And you know this how? Did you check by measuring your pulse manually?

  • what do you want to tell us?

how many times should i post pictures showing my f6x ear compared to a $ 30 finger pulse monitor and cross trainer connected to an HR belt?

No matter how I wear the watch. It does not change anything. I can also push it higher. The values remain the same. Nothing changes even after 10 minutes.

  • Yes, 6X.

what do you want to tell us?

I understand your frustration, but I don't think Phil or anyone else for that matter is trying to play the bad guy here.  I've seen the videos.  I know that no one here is posting BS for the sake of argument.  I'm just looking at the facts.  Some are having issues, others are not.  We're all using the same firmware.  Doesn't this point to something else?  We're all familiar with the backlight/display quality differences.  It seems more likely to me that there may be bad lot numbers causing this than a FW update.

  • what batch do you have? and which one does phil have?

  • I have the same issue. What helps for me in this case is following:

When the heartrate jumps down to 65-85 bpm, i turn off the sensor "cheststrap" and start an activity, f.e. cardio. I wait 10-20 sec. till my heartrate is measuered correct. Then i stop the activity and do not save. When the fenix 6 returns to the watchface the WHR is correct...

  • My friend's F6x with FW 3 still works well today.

I don't think it's related to FW. Could you show a similar photo (with the O2 meter on a treadmill), but now with the watch of your friend? And what are the result of your watch around your friends wrist?

I'm not saying that I don't believe you, but above experiment  would prove your statement (and can be used to convince Garmin)

  • Yes, that's the same with me. But does not help for allday tracking.

  • Believe me or not. If it is not the FW, why was my watch good with the old FW 3? My BOTH old watches. Then right after the update? Then the only explanation may be that the update destroyed the electronics.

  • The only way to confirm this would be by posting a photo/video, then updating the watches firmware to display a difference.  I'm pretty sure anyone convinced that FW3 is the last working FW will be unwilling to do so.
