Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

  • Interesting.  Is it possible that the backlight LEDs (or whatever does the screen illumination) just happen to be more 'powerful' in some hardware production runs for a given backlight percentage and therefore look like there is less contrast (which is what happens when I turn the backlight percentage right up - I normally use 10% not in activity and 20% in activity; anything higher starts to look washed out and is unnecessary in my opinion).

Hi there, I grabbed a Fenix 6 Pro (my first sports watch) and I'm having similar issues the screen looks quite washed out with a blue haze, theres no real black or contrast to it. Where did you get with this? I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to be or if I should get it swapped out at my retailer?

  • We’ve swapped the washed out looking watch twice now, the second time was this morning and both replacements are also washed out. After speaking to Garmin they say they’re investigating a possible software fix but I can’t see that being the issue myself.

  • Had the exact same impression, also bought a second watch to compare and got lucky. The difference is huge, especially if you compare the contrast between the screens at different angles. Take a look at the video I made:

  • Yes, the two photos above is the same device at same 20% light.

  • Are you sure that firmware is the same ? If you look at the icons on the left side of the screen, all colors are different:

Good question indeed. What are the firmwares? has the watch been made better/worse due to a firmware update?

  • Does anyone have this backlight / contrast issue on the Fenix 6X Sapphire?
If so can you add initial numbers from serial number ?
And also photos of the display.
    Thanks

I just shipped back my Fenix 6x Sapphire because of my low contrast backlit blue display.

I can assure you that I had the latest firmware installed before doing so.   This is definitely not a software issue.   It’s due to parts.  And Garmin claims the variation in displays due to parts was intended.

  • IMHO this might be due to different screen-hardware(-supplier) used in the manufacturing process...

Do the units have differences in battery life too?
