Default Music Player

I am trying to figure out where to set my default music player. I read online that it should be an option under "Settings," but I don't see it there. I've hunted around a bit, and can't seem to locate it.

Trying to pair with Fenix5s
  • When can we expect to get the setting back to select another music player. If I start a song in VLC and then try to use the watch controls it switches to Google Play Music.

I'm experiencing the same music control issue with Amazon Music. Same issue for BeyondPod. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
  • It seems in my case, recently (since Default Music Player option disappeared?) the Music Control does not control my Spotify at all. I have tried reinstalling Connect (cache issues?), having only Spotify playing in the background ... to no avail. I'm on Android Nougat and have a connected FR235.

I also have no controls with Amazon music. Apparently I am defaulting to Spotify. What reason was there for removing the default music player setting? Is there anything I can do to change it?

Or just maybe put that setting back...

I'm having the exactly same problem. My preferred Player is Google Play Music. At the moment, the audio controls on my Vivoactive HR do not do absolutely nothing. When I hit play nothing happens. If I'm listening to music in Google Play Music the controls behave the same way - they do not do nothing. My watch vibrates when I hit any button but nothing else.
  • Any update on this Garmin, I hate loosing a feature like this but as of now I can't control music from my watch since it defaults to some Google thing that wants a subscription and cloud based music.

I was final able to get my music control back on my FR35. Im not not 100% certain what I did, but I started by: Open connect on phone>Settings>smart notifications>I turned off access for google music play. After this step my FR35 connectivity to my phone was RESTORED; however, it started launching Samsung notes as my default music player. I then "played" with a few things, not really sure I made any changes. I launched amazon music and CONTROL was restored!. I can now close all apps (reboot) and my fr35 now launches and controls my amazon music. I know it's not a full solution, but maybe it will get you a step closer.
  • We are still investigating issues with the Amazon music service not responding to the music controls feature as expected.

When I start Amazon music I can see what's playing on the watch but the controls do not work. Its useless. Is this what your talking about and is it a know issue?

Been???Been like this for about 6 months. Use to work flawlessley. Garmin Fenix 5 and S8.

Does anyone have the Fenix 5 and S8 and it works with Amazi music and no issues?
  • @tysonty1: Does the Amazon Music app for Android respond to AVRCP controls on other Bluetooth devices equipped with such, e.g. Bluetooth wireless headsets?
  • Amazon Music BT functions do not work with any of my headsets. Since all the other media apps I have work correctly, there seems to an issue with the AM app which could explain why it fails with the Garmin widget.
