Default Music Player

I am trying to figure out where to set my default music player. I read online that it should be an option under "Settings," but I don't see it there. I've hunted around a bit, and can't seem to locate it.

Trying to pair with Fenix5s

SOLUTION IS HERE. PERSONALLY TESTED TO WORK.

I was unable to control music playing on my phone. I wanted my Fenix 5X to be able to control the Currently Active Music Player on my phone (Say Spotify). All it said was "Start Music on the Phone". When I press Play it opened Google Play Music. That's NOT what I want.

    Here's what to do:
    1. Go to Connect App>Settings>Smart Notifications
    2. Toggle "All Applications" to ON. DON'T TOUCH THE SCREEN for a few seconds! WAIT for an Android OS prompt to show up, asking you to enable "notifications access" for connect.
(IF YOU KEEP TAPPING elsewhere, the prompt goes away! Don't touch anything for a few seconds!)
    3. If the prompt does NOT show up, REPEAT step 2.
    4. Once you see the prompt. Tap "settings", then turn "Connect" to ON, enabling the Connect app to get notifications.
    5. Play music on the desired music player, Go to the Watch music controller, you SHOULD see your active track info and be able to control it from there. Viola!

NOTE: I cannot find that "settings page" anymore after enabling it. But I don't see a reason to deactivate it. Just delete the Connect app if you don't want it anymore. Please tell me if this works and hopefully help others to fix this issue. Garmin!

THX for pointing me into the right direction. Finally I can control spotify on my VA3. However, you don't need to allow smart notifications for all applications.

Instead follow these instructions (Android 8.0.0):
    1. Go to settings, apps, special access, notification access
    2. Enable Garmin's "Smart Notifications" in the shown list.
    3. Start spotify playback on phone.
    4. Control it using watch.
    • Open your preferred music player
    • Close the preferred music player
    • Select your Music controls on the device
    • What application opens?

Thank you for that. Previously, if I wasn't already playing music on my phone, selecting Play in the Music Controls widget would open up Google Play Music, which I no longer use. After following these simple instructions, now the widget opens my preferred app, Spotify, and continues playing where I left off!

I set my Default App for music to MX Player Pro on my phone settings as I don't like or use the built-in music player. I also disabled the built-in music player. Now the music control on my Vivoactive watch opens up Chrome on my phone! Can't ne too difficult to get the default player from the system and open that. Simpler still, bring back the Default Music Player option in GCM!!

Following these two threads worked for me...

I cam control MX Player Pro from my watch if I open it first on the phone and keep it in the foreground. If MX Player Pro is not running on the phone then Chrome starts when I try to play music using the watch.

    • I have a Forerunner 645 M. Unfortunately I was stupid enough to install the spotify app on the watch at the beginning. Now eventhough I deleted it I can't get back to the menu where it asks the music source (to choose "control phone").

When I go to music menu now the only thing I can do is "connect headphones to start listening: connect now /connect later", which is stupid, because I'd like to listen to music on the phone and only control it from the watch.

Bought this watch specifically so that I could control music. Watch music controls would only work with Google Play. Wanted Amazon music so deleted Google Play. Now watch music controls do not work at all. Very very disappointed.

Control phone music with Fenix 6x Pro.

This is good steps did work for me just I had to do a little bit different I believe becouse of a diferend handset and OS beeing updated frequently.

I'm using Garmin Fenix 6x Pro (soft. ver. 6.10) with Huawei P30 Pro (soft. ver. EMUI 10.0.0)

      Steps I've done:

      1. Set default player (I'm using BlackPlayer)

Go to: settings > apps  > default apps  > more defaults  > music  >  from here pick your preferable player.

      2. Allow Garmin Connect app for smart notifications.

Go to: settings  > in search bar write "notification access" (choose this option)  > then turn knob ON for Connect.

Note: when I stop playing and pressed play on Fenix 6x Pro it lonched Spotify so I had to force stop Spotify on the phone and then play my player on phone after this Fenix 6x Pro was controlling my player.

BIG Thanks to artchu and MKay it helped me to sort it out at the end, after long research!

I would suggest Garmin add this information to their "GET HELP" "MUSIC" section.
