Data Field: Peter's (Hi Vis) Pacer

Description
Peter's (Hi Vis) Pacer helps you to ride/run the perfect race.
This is a spinoff project from Peter's (Race) Pacer, while it has many similarities it took me a while to create as it's a completely seperate code base.
It's different in the following ways:
  • high visibility less data is shown on the screen, which means that it is easier to read - eg for people with bad eye sight.
  • it can be used in non-single field mode, this means you can put it on the same page with other datafields of your choice!
  • It's also optimized to run on Edge devices, this means you can just as well use this field to pace your bike races just as your running races....
Adjusting the race distance
In a race when you are next to the race marker press the LAP button, the distance will now be corrected to the nearest lap position - eg 5.08 will correct to 5, 8.8 will correct to 9. After pressing the lap button the distance will be adjusted and all averages will be recalculated against this new distance figure.
When you miss a lap marker do not worry: do not press LAP and go for the next lap marker.
When you press the LAP marker by mistake you can undo the (last) correction by pressing the LAP button again - within a 30 second window

Donations
The data field is fully functional as is, yet donations are encouraged on the watch by an encouragement text.

  • Thanks Peter for the fast reply. I see and that is what happens … I was only trying to use it for the first RUN leg for meaningful data and use the lap function to keep a track of the number of laps completed. Since the run laps are 2.5 km each (x2 = 5 km for Sprint and x4 = 10 km for Standard) this will sadly not work without an ability to disable the distance correction. I will just have to use it as the excellent run pacer that it is and for duathlon rely on the inaccurate Average Pace field of the FR235. Many thanks again, Bruce.
  • Hi Peter. I am not sure if I understand your (Hi Vis) Paper. If I run against an activity the ahead / behind does not refer to this activity. It still refers to the set pace. Is this correct. Or am I getting it wrong that there is some way to refer to the run activity. Thanks for your assistance. Alex
  • The ahead / behind time is always calculated against the set pace in the app settings of Peter's (Hi Vis) Pacer, it's not compatible with the Garmin race an activity feature.

  • Hi Peter, I bought this app of yours and use it every time I train or compete. It is very useful for my presbyopia. Yesterday I bought my new garmin 645 music (before I used a 235) I loaded the app, I put the code you sent me after the donation, I set the parameters but I do not see the dial in the new garmin. Can you help me? With 235 it was all so immediate
  • You have to edit the run settings and then edit the data fields. Set the lay-out to 1 field. (Press the up button when in the lay-out menu)

    Hello, Mr. Decker,

I have on two occasions had the Hi Vis pacer show an increasing number of minutes behind my desired pace, when my other watch showed that I was on pace. I've checked my settings, a couple of times, and can't figure out how to get it right. I would like to have a lap be 1000 m, and the pace be 5:27 per 1000 m. The target distance is 10000 m. Can you share a way for me to correctly set up the app, please?

  • This should do it, the important settings are:
    - Lap Size: 1000 (important is that your auto lap size on the watch is also 1k or auto lap is off)
    - Target Distance: custom or 10k
    - Custom Distance: 10000
    - Target Type: Target Pace
    - Target Pace: 5:27

    Or as an image:

Thank you for the assistance! I had incorrectly chosen the target type.

I went back today and changed the target distance to 15K. After synchronizing, the app does not work on my selected data field. It shows a IQ symbol with an exclamation point. I have soft reset the watch, which does not fix the issue. Do you have any recommendations?
  • When you have an iq error it means the data field crashes, one cause of this is if you have incorrect settings, eg have an alphanumeric value in a numeric setting field. Did you set target distance to 15k or custom distance to 15k? (custom distance is a numeric field, so that should be 15000 there)

In case the above is not relevant then the error log on your device in the folder \garmin\apps\logs\ might provide more information.
  • Hi. I'm looking for a very simple hi-vis pacer and I think this might be it. Before I invest, can you tell me whether I can configure the display to show just 1) the ahead/behind and 2) current pace in minutes per mile (not speed)?. Assuming I can auto-scroll through my other pages, this is all i'm looking for (I have Garmin Forerunner 235)
