Data Field: Peter's (Hi Vis) Pacer

Description
Peter's (Hi Vis) Pacer helps you to ride/run the perfect race.
This is a spinoff project from Peter's (Race) Pacer, while it has many similarities it took me a while to create as it's a completely seperate code base.
It's different in the following ways:
  • high visibility less data is shown on the screen, which means that it is easier to read - eg for people with bad eye sight.
  • it can be used in non-single field mode, this means you can put it on the same page with other datafields of your choice!
  • It's also optimized to run on Edge devices, this means you can just as well use this field to pace your bike races just as your running races....
Adjusting the race distance
In a race when you are next to the race marker press the LAP button, the distance will now be corrected to the nearest lap position - eg 5.08 will correct to 5, 8.8 will correct to 9. After pressing the lap button the distance will be adjusted and all averages will be recalculated against this new distance figure.
When you miss a lap marker do not worry: do not press LAP and go for the next lap marker.
When you press the LAP marker by mistake you can undo the (last) correction by pressing the LAP button again - within a 30 second window

Donations
The data field is fully functional as is, yet donations are encouraged on the watch by an encouragement text.

  • Since I miss the warmup function a lot for doing Tempo runs after some time of warmup I'm very happy that a buddy gave me a hint to create a multisport app of three times running.

By this I can do a warmup and start the tempo run with a fresh pace advance/behind calculation for the tempo part and ending with a cooldown. I just can't do manual laps during the tempo parts but this is ok for me. In a race I do not use the multisport app and the lap buttons works as usual.

  • That's a smart solution. One thing to take care of is to disable recording of the ahead time in the settings.
There is currently a Garmin bug with the combo FitContibutor/Multi-Sport, details here: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/developers/connect-iq/connect-iq-bug-reports/150528-fitcontributor-breaks-multisport-activities
  • Thanks for the hint. I will investigate during my next workout...
  • Did a test during a short walk only. During this walk everthing was working fine. The Lap button switched between the activities and I can see all ahead times in the fit file...
  • If I got two different goal finish times for a race; A and B, is it possible for me to use one data field per goal? For example the Higher Vis one for goal A, and them the your regular pacer data field for goal B if I have to slow down? To the lap button corrections adjust both simultaneously?

P.s. thanks for your great work, Pete!
  • Yes, you can use Peter's (hi vis) pacer together with Peter's (Race) Pacer, I've done that with the same purpose a few times in the past. The Lap button will take effect in both apps simultaneously, also when it's not your current screen.
  • What are the steps for entering the donation key? I'm not sure where to go; I've read posts from runners about not using the correct key but not how to start the process after a donation.
  • Enter the key in the "application settings". You can do this via garmin express on your pc or garmin connect mobile on your phone.

  • Hi Peter … Firstly thanks for Hi Viz Pacer. Used it many times for running races and love it (Donation already made).
    My question is this …
I used it for the first time in a Duathlon at the weekend. I have a FR235 and use the 4 field display in the Other Activity setting with Field 1 as Distance, Field 2 as Laps, Field 3 as Lap Pace and Field 4 as your Perfect Pace showing seconds ahead/behind. With the Auto Lap function set to OFF so that run laps, transitions and cycle laps are recorded correctly I use your data field to indicate my pace for the first run element of the duathlon. This worked well until I pressed the lap button after the first run lap whereupon the perfect pace indication changed to red and indicated minutes behind schedule. I believe that the lap button caused the adjusted distance function to recalculate giving the error rather than just incrementing the lap.
In your instructions I believed that the "Adjusted Distance" function only applied in the "Single Field" element of your data field but I may have misunderstood. If the corrected distance DOES affect the multi-field option then is it possible to have a setting to turn this off to enable normal lap button functionality?
Many thanks and keep up the great work,
    Bruce
  • Hi Bruce, the adjusted distance applies to all display models. My pace apps are not compatible with multi-sport activities because the transition will also inflict a lap push and I assume when pushing the lap button after the transition, it'll also take the total time already passed (from your previous sport) into the recalculation. It'll probably work well for the first run leg, but not for the run part after the cycle leg.
