Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

    I might need to check with the Garmin folks because the connect site should be showing something like:

    Did some additional testing with my GF's Fenix 3. With her watch it works…

    ErgIQ with my watch: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1754169156

    ErgIQ with her watch: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1754170758

    For some reason the Connect site doesn't seem to be honoring it but what is stranger is the FIT file lacks the data.

    Downloaded both FIT files to my GoldenCheetah, but both are "worthless" (no relevant data to work with). If you need/like I'll send you both FIT files, just let know.

    Can you check with version of ErgIQ you are using in the application settings?

    The lastest version: 1.0.0-BETA-16

    Edit: Could the root cause be, that my Fenix 3 has a "Stinking device ID", which Garmin Connect does not like? https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?376352-Fenix-3-with-Stryd-no-Connect-IQ-data-metrics

    I am guessing based on your testing and what I've seen that this most likely isn't related to the application but something else.

    Thanks a lot for your investigation. Many thanks. I hope it get sorted out.
  • I have just recently completed what will most likely be the official 1.0.0 release which includes:

    - code optimization to reduce memory needs;
    - addition of Approach S60;
    - addition of ANT+ SmO2 (single sensor at this time for Moxy and BSX);

    Other than Connect related issues revolving around information not being displayed as desired, are there issues people are having? I hope to have a release out in the next couple days once I can get the manual updated and do some testing to verify things are as they should be.

    Any hope that Rowpro time- or distance- based interval workout being seen by ERG IQ as a single workout not multiple workouts?
    for example considering Rowpro "End of interval" as Pause not as Stop, until the C2 PM5 Menu button be pressed to indicate the end of the whole workout?
    please Note that this functionality works fine with Painsled IOs App (working with C2 PM5 through Bluetooth or USB).

    Thanks for the update. Is there still a plan to get power data into the FIT file (and thus Garmin Connect)? I'm surprised there is more of a demand for SmO2 than there is power (or perhaps it's just ease of implementation).

    My issue got resolved by Garmin (Germany & Switzerland). They exchanged the F3 it without any hassle and now it works fine. Yessss. So happy. :cool:

    lcj2 I had to reset my f5s on Saturday because I was having problems after the 4.1 firmware update. After I reset everything I downloaded the Erg IQ app and I have done 4 training sessions using it since, today I realized that since I reloaded the app I am no longer receiving total strokes, average distance per stroke and the drag factor in the Erg IQ fit file when I sync to Garmin Connect. This is something that I have noticed only in these last 4 training sessions since the reload before all those metrics were present. Do you know of any reason why this happening and if there is something I could do to fix it. Thank you for any advice. I also noticed I no longer have average power or max power in the fit file or average stroke length.
