Erg IQ

Installation & Configuration

ErgIQ can be installed from the Connect IQ store using the link below. Once installed, a limited set of application settings are available for the user to adjust. These settings as well as the pairing procedure are outlined in the user manual.

Requirements

ErgIQ will connect to a compatible fitness equipment system, the following is currently supported:

  • Concept2 Rower/SkiErg with PM5 (Firmware v22.015/156/722 or greater)

Known Issues

This is a BETA and therefore it has some items being worked through. For issues relating to FIT recording, pairing or Garmin Connect, even if they are listed here please report that you have the issue as well. This will help accurately determine the scale of the problem.

  • workout metrics are incorrect: distance, calories, stroke count (upgrade PM5 to BETA v22.014 or greater using C2 Utility if your comfortable doing this, otherwise it will be fixed in the next release)
  • Fenix3, FR920XT, and vivoactive HR have issues pairing (see post #4 for temporary workarounds until resolved)
  • vivoactive doesn't save last lap and session data correctly (issue being investigated)
  • Garmin Connect doesn't integrate developer FIT fields using native number mapping for summary, laps, or record fields

Non-Garmin FIT Analysis Sites

ErgIQ takes advantage of the newer defined developer FIT fields. These fields are a new standard that are not currently recognized at all non-Garmin sites. The following sites are known to work but others may work as well, this is not an exhaustive listing:

ErgIQ Reviews or Other Information

  • rowingmusings ErgIQ Review - Review
  • Thanks for the update. Is there still a plan to get power data into the FIT file (and thus Garmin Connect)? I'm surprised there is more of a demand for SmO2 than there is power (or perhaps it's just ease of implementation).

The power data has been there from day one but was behind the developer code with some other information. The developer code isn't needed for that anymore opening that data up. Hopefully users will appreciate the value they get in relation to the amount of work that went into this.
  • lcj2 I had to reset my f5s on Saturday because I was having problems after the 4.1 firmware update. After I reset everything I downloaded the Erg IQ app and I have done 4 training sessions using it since, today I realized that since I reloaded the app I am no longer receiving total strokes, average distance per stroke and the drag factor in the Erg IQ fit file when I sync to Garmin Connect. This is something that I have noticed only in these last 4 training sessions since the reload before all those metrics were present. Do you know of any reason why this happening and if there is something I could do to fix it. Thank you for any advice. I also noticed I no longer have average power or max power in the fit file or average stroke length.

You were using the developer code which unlocked that information. You can just download today's update and you won't need it anymore. Enjoy!

Thank you soooooo much. Really very appreciated. In the past I've used an old FR610 (one of the few devices which had ANT+FE onboard; Garmin ditched this feature). I now happily can use my F3 for everything and don't need to maintain another device.

Hopefully users will appreciate the value they get in relation to the amount of work that went into this.

Out of curiosity… How many/much time did you spent so far to figure out everything and get it done?

Thank you lcj2 for all your help and the work you have put into this great app, it has become an invaluable tool to me and the only reason I use a Garmin wearable. Continued success in all your endeavors.

IQ! notice after trying to save workout using newest version

    Hi lcj2,

I've recently upgraded to v1.0.0.1 and have connected it to my PM5 for my previous two sessions. Connection has not been an issue with the watch (fenix 3, v8.30)
and the PM5 (beta v22 build23) either time. Upon completing the workout I hit "menu" to get back to the main menu which in the past has prompted the watch to store the workout and display "Saving" on screen. However, with the newest version I have experienced the "IQ!" screen with the information not being logged into Garmin Connect (it only shows 2 or 3 calories saved, and 36 seconds when the sessions have been 30 minutes in length). Interestingly, I have the application settings configured with the Garmin Device as the heart rate monitor source, so calories and intensity minutes are accumulated and recorded in Garmin Connect and reflect the time of the training session. I have been using Garmin Express to update and configure all of the settings in ErgIQ. Any thoughts?

Thanks again for taking the time to develop this app!

    Best,

    AJR

Can you send any logs in /GARMIN/GARMIN/APPS/LOGS/CIQ_LOG.TXT? This is a redesigned version to clean things up and I believe I got everything but maybe something is going on. Can you also describe if the HR on the PM stops displaying during these rows and if the light on the back of the monitor is still blinking?

    Had exactly the same issue.

After (hard) resetting the PM5, reinstalling the latest IQ App, reinstalling the PM5 firmware (beta v23.4), a downgrade to PM5 v22 (release version) did the trick. Now it works fine again.

The HR was visible during the entire session and never disappeared from the PM5 screen. The light was blinking during the pairing but I did not catch if it stopped blinking during the session or at the end. I will post the files here once I return to my personal computer.

    Thanks!

I'll see if there is a newer beta update available (I'm on the earlier generation of the PM5 hardware) and give the above steps a try to see if this works. Not sure if I want to downgrade completely but I'll see what happens with the rest.
  • I just tried this on PM5 FW23.4 and everything worked fine for me. The PM5 has MANY options and programming options, can you please list out the whole configuration your using and the workout your configuring so I can try and re-create this. Thanks!
