While this may look like a watch face, it's actually an application to to record a simple walk!

While running, the main screen looks very much like a watch face, with all the typical things, but behind it are three additional screens. (swipe or up/down to get to them)

  • additional data including Temperature (Tempe required), Pressure (on watches with a baro altimeter), Altitude, Pace, Speed, Calories, and Laps (A-Laps means you are using auto laps! - Default is Auto-Lap each 1 mi or km)
  • a chart of your walk, with dots to indicate your start and each lap mark, as well as current heading
  • "Back to Start" with the direction and distance, your current heading, and current lat/lon

When the app starts, it will waits for GPS, and you'll be told to press start when GPS has a lock. Pressing start again pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

A number of things can be changed by using "settings" in Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express, including the bottom like on the main screen. It will show you daily steps, daily cals, daily distance, and on watches that support it, floors and intense minutes.

I want to keep this a simple alternative to Hike/Hike2, so please look at those if you want additional features, as they may already have the feature. (My sig is a link to my other apps)
  • Version 0.11

    - change to startup. The "watchface" displays before recording starts.
    - small bug fix to the display of "Activity Steps" (what you see as "xxxx (Act)" on bottom line of main screen)
  • Hi

I like the app and use it all the time. One thing I noticed the other day was when I left the results page onscreen overnight it drained the battery almost completely. I guess the GPS is still on. Is it possible to time out the results screen returning to the activities after, say , a few minutes?

I guess while I'm on it, is it possible to add the option of changing font size between the "normal" size and a "larger" one for those that don't see too good :)
  • I never considered someone staying on the results page over night! :) It's best to just exit it yourself, but I'll think about alternatives.

As far as fonts, I'm a bit limited on those, due to both the various screen dimensions and the size of the available fonts (they aren't variable sized.) What watch are you using?

    Simple Walk

    Thanks for the answer!

  • I suspect there is a problem with Garmin Connect. I've seen people having trouble with maps not displaying for even native apps and other devices, such as this thread:

I was using run app from Garmin on Saturday and there is map displeyd.

    I will try it tomorrow.

Last update on Android was 19.10.2016.

Distance meter use steps or GPS?
  • Seems it can work for a long time and then just stop one day. Here's another thread about it, with a post from a f3 owner at the end:

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?343991-Missing-GPS-Track/page11

It seems to start working again after powering off the watch and back on. It seems to be something happening with many different watches and native apps. All Garmin seems to have said is "we're working on it".

Sorry for the slow response. I'm using a Fenix 3 HR.

Don't worry about the fonts, no big deal.

Something else I did notice though. I use Optimus HR as a watchface and after using Simple Walk it returns to the default analog watchface. I need to restart the watch for the watch to return to the Optimus watchface.
  • You may want to contact the developer of the Optimus watchface, as it might be something when the watchface is restarted. Simple Walk leaves things the same as when it started (it can't change anything in the firmware, etc). Does it also happen if you use the standard "Run" app?
