Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • - cool, thanks for posting that profile Slight smile I don't know which watch you have, but here's a pic for F5X+ from the simulator (so it will look even better on a real watch with real values etc)

  • I created a new watchface that I’ve been using for some time now. It’s a simple military style thats easy to read and also good for your battery life (~0.5% per hour). The style is similar to the Suunto Traverse Alpha which was my inspiration for this.

The watch face comes in two colors: one for day one for night. It’s black on olive green background or reverse at night.

On the top there are three symbols that will appear if you either set an alarm, connect your phone or turn on DND. The date and time are pretty straight forward.

Then there is a sunset time on the light theme and a sunrise time on the dark theme. I set it up in the watch face settings to automatically switch to the dark watch face after sunset and back to the light on sunrise.

On the bottom there is a battery indicator that will switch to red as soon your battery drops to your low setting.

(the rectangles don’t have a function, they’re just for design purposes. But if you want you could assign data to fill up with your steps or something else)

    Light theme:

    Dark theme:

To set up the watch faces to change automatically:

    • Profile Number 1 will be the dark watch face.
    • The profile activation days are set to 1234567
    • Profile Start Sunset+00:00
    • Profile End Sunrise+00:00

    • Profile Number 2 is the light watch face.
    • Activation days also set to 1234567
    • but the Profile Start and End time just leave the 00:00

Sometimes the watch will only show --:-- on the sunrise/sunset time. In this case the watch face will NOT change automatically.

Just use anything that uses your GPS (I often just open up navigate to set my location) then the time will refresh and show up again.

Hope you like it! Have fun Slight smile

  • Thanks for this must have app!

I tried to replace the time fonts to the original Garmin fonts, but the biggest font it gives me, is still small compare to the original watch face. I have the 935 watch.

Is it possible to add these big fonts?

  • I tried to change the time fonts to the stock fonts, but even the largest stock fonts are looking small.

    (I have the Fourunner 935).

    Am i missing something?

  • The system fonts in CIQ watchfaces may not always match the fonts that Garmin use in their own stock watchfaces - they can use whatever they like in those. All the ones that they provide for use in CIQ I allow you to select to use in M2 - so unfortunately there aren't any more available Disappointed

I do plan to create some alternate versions of M2 which use different custom fonts at some point. So far I've had suggestions for a couple of fonts, e.g. for "M2 Futura". So if you have any particular fonts which will work well and you want to see then let me know Slight smile So long as the licensing for them is free! Then I can make sure there is a good range of sizes available to choose from.

  • - nice design! And good explanation for setting up the switching too.

I'm going to check what you mention about the sunrise/sunset not showing - once it is set up with GPS then it should always work. It sounds like the same bug with data not always being saved ... And then once the sunrise/sunset values are unset it has a knock-on effect that profile times using those don't work either - so checking that too Slight smile

  • Thank you so much for the quick  reply.

  • Ring with steps count (red=done; blue=still to go to reach target), date with week number after month.

  • I thought this maybe was a GPS problem. It mostly occurs in my apartment (where I have a bad GPS connection). It sometimes just goes blank and then the automated switching won’t work.

Btw, just wondering how often does it refresh the times on a regular base?

(and what exactly does the Sunrise/Sunset Altitude Adjustment setting in the Connect app do?)

  • #2: Ring with steps count (red=done; blue=still to go to reach target), date with week number after month.
