ConnectIQ store categories

so how do the categories in the new ConnectIQ store app relate to the categories when we upload our app?

The ConnectIQ app store categories are "Navigate Your World", "Performance Metrics", "Having Fun", "Power Tools", "Life at a Glance". all kind of fuzzy if you ask me.

The categories I can choose when uploading an app are "Consumption", "Counter", "Goal", "Cycling", "Environmental", etc. Not much better, but worse they aren't aligned.

My app (Wind Field) is a datafield with the current wind. I have it as Environmental, but I don't know how to get it into any of those categories on the store. It'd be great if it were under "Weather at a Glance", as that it exactly what it is.

The stats can reset when the internal version number of an app changes (you can see this for your own apps in the web app store). This can happen when you upload a new .iq or if auto-migration is applied…

It are all relevant questions you're posing, but the better suggestion would be to get rid of the mapping and to be able to directly choose the category where the app should be placed in.

You can now change categories too Jim, that doesn't make any difference whatsoever.

But what does make a difference is that it's however impossible to get into the right category for some of the apps you create. For example I'm unable to list my "Navigator" app in the "Navigate your world" category just because it's a data field and not a watch app.

The sane thing to do would be a to do a one time category conversion and give the developer the freedom to let the category be chosen from all the options present in the current store front.

But that's a bit different with categories defined by app type. so a device app that does weather can't be in the weather category. I've never understood why a category is based on app type.

I agree, a navigation DF should be in the same place as apps for navigation. The actual mapping that we can set vs how things are displayed hasn't ever made a lot of sense to me.

You want to post stuff like that in the bug report area, as an improvement request/suggest. That way it can be assigned a ticket, etc.

App Ideas is for people suggesting a new CIQ app be developed.

BTW, this has been suggested many times, probably starting the first day the CIQ App was released. So nothing new.
