My Beta Purpose only app became Public all of a sudden

Anybody else experienced this? My app that always had the BETA label, and was not visible to others (except myself) all of a sudden became public in the Store.

Not great, as some people started to install it.

I dont think I did this myself, since, as far as I can see there is no way to move a BETA app to NON BETA. When you create it as Beta purpose only, it stays on that.

  • This just happened to me. Not sure why it happened but I immediately deleted it from the App store.

  • This just happened (again!) to a beta watch face I uploaded this morning. I just got an email saying thanks for  the Beta watch face from an Instinct 2 user. The watch is not even available for purchase on an Instinct 2!!!!!!

What the *** is going on at IQ?

  • I was told by support to add "Do Not Approve" to my beta app titles

    > Going forward, if you wish to have an app in beta and do not want it released publicly, could you provide “Do Not Approve” in either the title or description of your app listing so that our team knows whether to approve it or not.

  • Are the team unable to see the word beta which I already include in the version number, title and description?

  • My main concern is that there is an explicit "beta app" checkbox, and I always check it for my beta apps.

I don't think Garmin should be relying on text (anywhere) for determining behavior. But for now I will also add the "do no approve" label to my beta app titles.

  • I added DO NOT APPROVE to my beta title.  However, this edit does not appear to have been approved!  and consequently does not have the word Do Not Approve in the title.  Catch 22 or what.

Then I get a review email.  When I check it, I have over 10 downloads and 2 5 star reviews with complaints about things not working.

See the beta app here https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/92a682ed-2871-4b80-b05a-36906bdde279

The only reason I know my beta app is available for anyone to download, is because I got a direct email about from a downloader  Otherwise I would not know about.

  • How does it look in your developer dashboard? Does it look like other beta app's or like other approved apps? Can you share a screenshot?

Also I'm not saying that this is the case for you, it'll be hard to approve after the fact anyway, but it's possible that SOME of the devs who posted here accidentally uploaded a new app not as beta. Though I remember someone had a beta for years before it turned to published, so it looks like it does really happen at least sometimes

  • It is clearly marked as Beta in the dashboard where I can upload or edit. I get the yellow beta warning message"

"Note: Only you will be able to download and test the app. If you want to publish your app after testing, you will need to upload it again and use another appID in the app’s manifest.xml. You can manage and download your beta app in the "Beta Apps" section of the developer dashboard."

at the top and the merchant options are greyed out.

Also when I view all of my apps in the main dashboard, this particular watch face has the red upper right Beta badge on its image.

  • Great, so it's still beta in that regard. I'd attach screenshots and open a bug report. I think this should be enough for Garmin to start to investigate how a beta got published
