My Beta Purpose only app became Public all of a sudden

Anybody else experienced this? My app that always had the BETA label, and was not visible to others (except myself) all of a sudden became public in the Store.

Not great, as some people started to install it.

I dont think I did this myself, since, as far as I can see there is no way to move a BETA app to NON BETA. When you create it as Beta purpose only, it stays on that.

  • I have a couple of Connect accounts with beta apps, and none of the beta apps have been converted to non-beta. Sounds like a freak occurrence in your case.

As you said it should be impossible for a beta app to change to non-beta and it sounds like a serious bug (especially if this happened without any action on your part).

Idk if this helps, but maybe try sending an email to [email protected]? Not sure if you this will get you a faster response than posting here.

I guess you could always delete the app (if you haven't done so already), although obv that doesn't undo the damage.

  • Yes, happened a couple of times to me also.
I can only recommend to delete the published app and recreate it as beta.

Never got an answer from [email protected]

  • If an app is truly a beta app, it cannot be converted to a publicly-available app listing through any means I am aware of. If, however, you simply put "beta" in the app title or description, then it's entirely possible that it was approved because it would appear in our approval queue (as opposed to true beta apps, which do not). We do not assume including "beta" in the name or description means it should not be approved.

  • HI Brandon, No it was a BETA app, with the BETA label on it. I have used it for more than a year as Beta, invisible to others. But now recently it was visible. I think it might have happened after I uploaded an updated version, somehow it entered the Connect IQ app-review flow, and maybe after the review it got converted to non-beta. I'm 100% sure this is a bug/issue on ConnectIQ side. I had to delete my beta app, and recreated a new BETA app.

  • It happened again. About 2 hours ago (22:27 GMT+1) I got the email that my beta app has now been released.
Of course it was marked as beta, first time uploaded according to the app on 28.03.2025 - but realistically sometime at the end of February or so.

Maybe that's where you can start troubleshooting. Yesterday I uploaded an update to the beta, which may have somehow reset the beta status or loaded the app into your approval queue as a new app.
I think there could be a possible problem. I may remember that it was the same last times.

This is/was the link to my Beta-App "Tactical Beta" - unfortunately I do not know if the app-id is still the same as it was when it was beta.

Since it only supports one device, I will leave it online over the weekend and delete it next week. Maybe you can get some useful information from it.

  • This has just happened to me. I have a long standing Beta on my developer page and that is still Beta. Recently I added a 2nd beta, flagged as Beta on the initial upload, named Beta, and picture of Beta. Once uploaded it got the Red corner triangle stating it was Beta and I had the usual yellow banner stating only I could download it. Then yesterday it was approved and made public - I have obviously deleted it. For info I received the email at 20:51 UTC on 7th April 2025

  • Why is it "obvious" that you deleted it? I would've kept it for Garmin to check it. If it's a beta for testing before you upload for public, then there's nothing to loose. Worst case you get some bad reviews. If there's something "secretive" about it then it's a different issue.

  • Fair enough - it was just a knee jerk reaction to get rid of it.
