Edge 1030 v8.00 - Known Issues

First of all I feel Garmin have done some good work with V8.00, I will pick out ClimbPro as a great new feature.

However with such a complex device (and so many other devices in Garmin's portfolio) and so many features unfortunately things do fall through the cracks.

I would really appreciate if Garmin could confirm if these are known issues and whether they are on roadmap for fix?

UPDATED 2nd October - Looks like none of these made the 8.06 Beta :-(

This is my list of top issues that I still experience with the device:

- Training Status and Load changed at v8.00 and no longer reading the same as Garmin FR 935 / Fenix 5 devices despite TrueUp  Annoyance Factor 7/10

Workaround : I now just ignore the new Training Status and Load metrics on the Edge and just use what the Garmin FR 935 reports after TrueUp

- Improvements in LiveTrack and AutoStart, but Phone keeps disconnecting -  Annoyance Factor 6/10

Workaround : I now just use iPhone share location

- Battery showing 100% all the time, unless you do a hard power down after each charge - been around a ling time this one!  Annoyance Factor 6/10

Workaround : Must remember hard power down after each charge

- SRAM etap and AXS Front gear changes no longer recorded in FitFile correctly.  Annoyance Factor 5/10.

NO Workaround : Overall I didn't use every time, but my gear change Info from a recent pyrenees trip is now useless (Climbro good, gear change bad!)

  • Good list, I'd add that stay on road seems to write the modified location (locked to the road) instead of the actual location ridden which it didn't used to do. Combine that with the Garmin routing engine trying to avoid certain roads (especally in Europe) and you have a recipe for wonky tracking.

Hopefully we'll see a bug fix release soon, especially that battery bug which has been hanging around for 18 months now.

  • I read about the lock on road issue. I have not seen this problem. I'm in the U.S and I'm wondering if the problem is only in Europe. I've ridden the same route with lock on and lock off and there is no difference in the track.

I have found that sometimes after charging, the 1030 does a full power down and sometimes it doesn't. I always make sure to shut it down and after a ride I do a power down. I never see the battery level issue but I can see that it could be a problem if I forget to power it down and it should be corrected.

Live Track was working perfectly since firmware 8  for about five rides but on my last ride it did not autostart. I don't have any disconnect issues with my Iphone so I don't know what the Live Track problem can be.

  • It’s not limited to nonUS territories. I’ve had the “riding on cycle way” message while I was on the road. Granted, the “cycle way” was less than 10 feet side of the road, but still...

  • What setting do you have for GPS? I use GPS only due to the GLONASS problems. Rode today with no tracking issues.

  • I am getting occasional radar disconnect messages that then self correct within seconds. Happens about 3 or 4 times per 3 hour ride.

  • Hopefully we'll see a bug fix release soon

Looks like this one made the 8.06 Beta ...

    • Fixed an issue where the GPS track locked to the road inaccuarately.
