FW 4.19: Can't save a location. START button does not work

Since the latest update I can't save my location anymore. START button does not react. Any tips on how to solve this or report this?

In which folder does the watch save these locations and is it possible to add them through a USB connection to a PC?

  • For now, the only fix is to restore defaults settings. I definitely understand that it is not an ideal "fix", so I apologize for the inconvenience. You can back up settings such as activity data fields and watchface settings by following the steps from Can I Copy or Back Up My Information and Settings on My Garmin Device?

    I will DM you so you can let me know if you have any issues backing up the settings, and so I can add you to the impact of this disruption.

  • it isn’t a “not ideal fix”. It’s far less than that. If you would be honest you would admit that garmin isn’t working on a fix. Garmin just waits till the users stop complaining. Right?

    And about backingup usersettings. Why is there a backup and restore feature on the fenix/epix series and not on the expensive forerunner 965. That would be an usefull addition. Far more useful than bs things like endurance/hill score. 

    (the way you link doesn’t work very well on a Mac. You need some third party tool which garmin says, isn’t supported by garmin. I reported the lack of usb mass file transfer, but garmin isn’t working on a fix for that either)

  • I can't trust that after the factory restart all the settings I have spent a long time selecting will be there. Why does garmin not have an auto backup like all smart devices in the market. I REALLY need the save location to work because it is very important when I travel. 

  • Im having the same issue on my 265S, i will not bother backing up, resetting and restore, i am hoping for a miracle expecting garmin to issue a fix on this, yet again 8 months passed and nothing...

  • So I have Forerunner 965 and save problem - stopped saving location. I can't believe Garmin has not fixed this for at least 11 months ongoing (April 24!) Super clunky trying to upload file to support - failed for no reason via Connect. I asked for a ticket number yet to receive. Any idea why no ticket numbers?

  • So, since the issue is being ignored, and apparently Garmin does not plan to implement a backup / restore system, today I reset my watch after VERY CAREFULLY following the instructions here

    to lose as little setup as possible.

    Save location now works as expected.

    I did a restore WITHOUT deleting data.

    The .fit files are stored in many more folders than those listed in Garmin's page, and I saved those stored in all "Garmin" subfolders.

    I then restored all the .fit files together in the "Newfiles" folder.

    It went better than I expected, the only data I apparently lost were my own widget setup, and the sports list that come up when I press the start button.
